Canterbury Park Analysis – Thursday, July 8th – by Howard Kravets

Please watch my livestream show TONIGHT, Ep. #54, of the HHH Racing Podcast YT Channel HERE for a great preview of the big day of racing at Belmont on Saturday w/my special guest, NYRA’s own Andy Serling. Show starts at 8PM EST, don’t miss it!!

Nice card today….many (6) alw. races with high-quality fields.

Key:  BF = Bad Favorite and LS = Longshot

Race 1:  5-1-2

#5 Ring Leader has many things going for her. Love outside speed, turning back in distance, and going turf to dirt. Earner of almost 170k, has to fend off talented filly on the inside, Arizona Sun.

Race 2:   5-3-4

Price candidate (ML 6-1) #5 La Rosa Drive is dropping down for a jock riding his first race in Shakopee, but has won 16% of his mounts this year. Has tactical speed that should serve her well in this field. Likely 1-2 choices #3 and #4 both come from pretty far back, so La Rosa Drive should get the jump on them.

Race 3:   3-7-1

#3 Overly Lucky gets a big rider switch back to Quinonez, who has ridden the gelding before with success. Between the #1,5, and 7, hoping the pace develops enough and Overly Lucky can be just that when he needs to find that important hole in the stretch.

Race 4:   5-3-1

Wanted to try and beat #5 She’s Fire and Ice, as she received a nice trip last time and won as my choice. But she seems awfully logical again, should get a good stalking trip again for Wade. Very murky pace situation here…would be best for Wade to be aggressive early.

Race 5:   2-1-7    BF: 6  LS: 2

My longshot play of the day is here in Race 5, with #2 Bring Me a Check. 6-1 ML gelding has plenty of early speed and could take them wire-to-wire. Has races from last year on turf that can easily win this, needs to shake loose and get 1 easy middle quarter. Top choices Sonny Smack (coming back quick off of stake effort) and Hot Shot Kid (in poor form) have holes that can be poked into to, think they’re both going to be overbet.

Race 6:   1-6-3

#1 May We All needs to run down likely favorite #6 Dare Felix; should get a good inside trip, tip out in the stretch and run down the likely fave. Hope #2 softens up Dare Felix, otherwise he might be gone and tough to catch.

Race 7:   3-2-1     LS: 2

#3 Lady Hideaway in excellent form right now for trainer Rengsdorf. Plenty of speed to her outside to set up that wicked late kick. As always, needs a trip but big chance under Eikleberry to get the repeat job done again. Want to mention a longshot possibility, #2 Pranked (8-1 ML), who is second off the layoff with back numbers on the turf easily good enough to win this.

Race 8:   8-2-5

#8 Let’s Skadaddle seems to lay over the field a bit in here, but a little concerned about the 1/10 lifetime. Fits vs. these however and in great form. Most of those lifetime losses were against open company, these are MN-breds. Possible single in your Late P5?

Race 9:  2-7-5

#2 Bobby Boots tough call in this wide-open affair to close the card. Has ample speed to get to the lead, but takes the blinks off. Might try to relax a little and finish like he did in his first 2 starts last year. Inside trip coming, just needs to use his speed at the right time.
