At Noon PST, Del Mar Racetrack had announced that it is cancelling racing on Thursday, November 21. In a press release given by Del Mar Racetrack, “…Inclement weather likely will result in a muddy main track and soft turf course.” Currently there is one U.S. model that can forecast out that far and below is the direct model forecast.
Below is a chart showing the current forecasts of precipitation for McClellan-Palomar Airport just outside of Carlsbad, CA. This location is used due to it being the closest weather station to Del Mar Racetrack. The chart shows the 12z (4am PST) and 18z (10am PST) GFS Model runs.
The average of both model runs is 0.7” of rain with both models agreeing on the timing of the precipitation. Both forecasts show the start of the precipitation to be around Wednesday at 12am PST (Wed 08 UTC) and ending around 11pm PST that same night (Thu 06 UTC).
