Honey Cake – Belmont – Race 9 – 7/3/2021 – Perfect Sting Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) – 4-year-old filly by Siyouni out of Pink Anemone, formerly trained by Henri-Alex Pantall.
A winner of four of her eight starts. Progressive and capable filly who has made steady progress through the ranks last season. Opened her account on synthetics as a juvenile but found Stakes company too hot on her first two starts of 2020. Dropped to a less competitive level – Allowance equivalent – to record back-to-back wins before again struggling in a Group 3, beating just one home. Defied notions that she had an obvious class ceiling on her most recent start, winning a big-field Listed race in good style, soon in the lead and powering clear having travelled best. Her sire has better numbers on decent ground but that win came on Very Soft official going and she did look there as though she was physically the type who might always prefer some give. The furthest she has won over to date is 7.5 furlongs but she has plenty of stamina on the dam side and a mile will be no problem at all. Nothing too exciting on the workout tab and she faces some seriously good opponents here who have better form than her, but her turn of foot should stand her in good stead in the US, she should have more to give as a 4-year-old and she could be one to use under the favourite here.
