Import Analysis – Swiss Swoo (Race 7, Santa Anita, 6/11/21) – by Steven Bonnick

Swiss Swoo – Santa Anita – Race 7 – 6/11/2021 – 100k Allowance Optional Claimer (6.5 furlongs on turf) – 3-year-old colt by Swiss Spirit out of Phoenix Clubs, formerly trained by Denise Foster.

A winner of one of his two starts. A rare juvenile winner for a trainer with low flat percentages overall, winning at just 3% with 2-year-olds over the last five seasons in Ireland. This horse shaped with a bit of promise on debut, coming to challenge with a furlong to run but weakening out of things late having raced on what was probably the worst bit of the track, while also looking as though he needed the run. He stepped forward nicely on that effort to score next time out over the same course and seven furlong distance, well-placed but showing good tenacity to wear down the bold front-runner on the line. That form hasn’t been extensively tested, but the close third is a decent animal. Both of Swiss Swoo’s runs have been on synthetics, but he is proven around a left-handed turn and should be very well suited by firm turf. He probably won’t stay much further than a mile but this trip looks a suitable starting point and he should be well placed from a decent draw. His works are mixed, and he’s tricky to weigh up overall, but I’m hopeful that he should be capable of making an impact in a race like this at some point.
