Best Bet: Race 8: (2) D C Fireman
Longshot: Race 2: (2) Casanova Queen
Race 1: (3) Tuff But Fair has been facing tougher in her last couple of races after breaking her Maiden first time out with a Beyer that puts her right in the mix here. She had an excuse last time out as she was near a pace that collapsed giving closers the advantage there. Her 39 length loss is exaggerated by the fact that the winner won by open lengths. Cuts back to the one-turn here which may suit her better in the long run. 5/2 or higher is worth a play here.
Selection: (3) Tuff But Fair
Race 2: The favorites here are the most likely winners but I have questions with the (1) Moonsafe (0 for 3) and the (5) Asbuilt who is dropping down after two decent efforts at the Maiden Special Weight class. The horse who is intriguing is the (2) Casanova Queen. In her debut she was bet at Turfway and she vied for the lead three wide before tiring. Then last time out against better, she was yet again on top of the pace in which collapsed and the horses that finished 1-2 came from last and third to last in that spot. Now she drops down, gets Lasix and could be a decent price here.
Selection: (2) Casanova Queen
Race 5: (4) Scarlet’s Song gets to cut back to a better distance. Last time out she was a clear leader in a race that for the distance and for the level, had pretty quick splits early on, which, ultimately took its toll on the front runners. If she gets back to her race three back, she will be very tough to beat here.
Selection: (4) Scarlet’s Song
Race 6: (7) Whats the Chances is way the horse to beat here but if you want a horse that will offer value to use in either exotics with the 7 or play to win, (6) Quest of Glory is the alternative. Dropping in class from last time out, in which he was up on a pace that totally collapsed. The horses who were up on the pace with him finished third to last and last (he finished second to last). He now gets to cutback in distance and still may have enough speed to be close. Anything at 8-1 or higher is worth a win bet and throw in the exacta with the favorite.
Selection: (6) Quest of Glory to win, use with (7) Whats the Chances in exotics.
Race 8: Even though (7) Big Hambone finished ahead of (2) D C Fireman last time they met in which was a salty crew for the level, I thought you could make an excuse for D C Fireman. He was down on the inside on a day where horses making outside moves had the advantage and it was also a race that was starting to fall apart late. D C Fireman should be on the lead once again with an inside post and this time could keep going all the way.
Selection: (2) D C Fireman
Race 10: (7) Warm Sunny Breeze was forced to be in a duel last time out in a race that fell apart, now he will be able to stalk since he is perched outside the quickest rival. (8) Gaming Jack, his stable mate can pick up the pieces if the race gets hot once again up front. (1) Sam and Sy is the horse to beat but the drop is concerning.
Selections: (7) Warm Sunny Breeze to win, exactas with (8) Gaming Jack and (1) Sam and Sy
