Late Pick-3 Trip Notes

Race 8: N1X Allowance, 3YO+, 1 1/16 Miles, Dirt

HORSE RACE TRIP NOTE
MASAYOSHI Allowance, LRL, 6F, Fast Dirt, 11/07/25 – 6th MASAYOSHI took a hefty bump between horses at the break; chased the pace under patient handling from ~9L last racing to ~1/4 pole, then swung 6W+ into the lane and stayed on with credit but had too much to do. Wide into lane (minor upgrade). Took kickback well on dirt debut and ran like he’d improve for today’s extra distance second off the bench (this was almost like a prep run). More can be expected today.
MIKA Allowance, DEL, 1M 70Y, Sloppy Dirt, 05/28/25 – 1st (Off turf event). MIKA sped forward to lead in the 2P early; traveled powerfully setting even, uncontested and sustainable fractions to the far turn, then gradually widened away from his struggling rivals in hand; was kept to task late on. A nice gate to wire effort in the slop with potentially a little more left in the tank; effort makes him worthy of respect. Questions remain over whether he can reproduce this on fast dirt; taking more pressure in front; and/or off the layoff today, though.
INDY MAGIC Claiming 40k, KEE, 7F, Fast Dirt, 10/18/25 – 1st INDY MAGIC worked out into the clear 3W and forward to prompt the pace from ~1L back in 3rd racing to the far turn; advanced in hand while 3W on the bend, took a narrow lead ~1/8th pole, then edged away in the lane despite remaining on his L lead (and carrying his head high). Sat a very comfortable trip and won as a 7/5 shot should; figs and form make him live; new connections stretch him back out in trip.
SUPER ACCELERATE Allowance, LRL, 6F, Fast Dirt, 10/10/25 – 8th SUPER ACCELERATE gradually lost ground while being hustled along on the rail racing to the top of the lane, then eased in the lane. This was an uninspiring comeback effort that lacked a visible excuse (took kickback well, stride looked fine, was fading too early for fitness to have been an issue); didn’t run like a horse who was crying out for lasix either (which he gets first time today). Needs much more second off up in trip.
COLLECTION DAY Starter Alw, DEL, 1M, Fast Dirt, 07/09/25 – 5th COLLECTION DAY was slowly into stride; chased the slow pace from ~3L back while being nudged along on the rail to the far turn, then weakened under a strong ride and finished well behind. Sat a clean, rail skimming trip; there was no visible reason for this subpar, uninspiring effort. Has bounced back from similarly poor efforts in the past but it’s tough to have confidence in him today, especially as he’s now running off the bench.
MAJESTIC TIGER Starter Alw, DEL, 1M 70Y, Muddy Dirt, 09/28/25 – 2nd MAJESTIC TIGER traveled well tracking the even pace from ~2L back on the rail into the back stretch; slightly resisted the muddy kickback racing into the far turn and had to be hustled along to hold his position; continued to be ridden along ~2L off the lead on the rail racing to the top of the lane (on incorrect lead leg), then cut the corner into the lane (gaining ground), briefly loomed as a win contender ~3/16 pole, then flattened out and dropped back into a well beaten 2nd. Ran his race at 7/1 and stuck to his task admirably having looked to dislike the muddy kickback racing into the far turn. Had a dream trip and saved ground the whole way, though, which definitely helped him hold 2nd late (downgrade), and his cornering on the R lead was undesirable.
MAD BANKER Starter Alw, PRX, 1M 70Y, Fast Dirt, 10/27/25 – 2nd MAD BANKER was squeezed along while setting a slow pace with a narrow lead on the rail to the far turn, then dropped back and lost the lead to his strong traveling stablemate as the pace lifted; straightened for the drive ~3L off the lead in a share of 2nd, then stayed on to hold 2nd late on. Was allowed to set slow fractions while saving ground throughout (DOWNGRADE). Was idle in front too (had to be nudged along when in front, then finished okay when chasing a rival; maybe he doesn’t want to be in front/win?) Fits on figs and form but has questions to answer.
RHYTHM ‘N BLUES MSW, PRX, 1M, Fast Dirt, 10/28/25 – 1st Four runner race. RHYTHM ‘N BLUES pressed the even pace between horses in the 2-3P racing to the 1/2m pole, then came under pressure as the back marker made a bold move around horses into the lead and increased the tempo; dropped to the rail entering the turn and went to work chasing the new leader in 2nd to ~1/4 pole, then swung out into the 3P and stuck to his task well, despite remaining on his L lead; nailed the tiring leader on the wire. Sat a neutral trip; result/speed fig fair. Front two pulled 21L clear of 3rd; don’t think this was an overly strong maiden, and he was fortunate that the leader hit a wall in the stretch (was booked for 2nd until leader stopped late); L lead in lane was undesirable. Feel he needs more to beat winners.
HOLIDAY EXPRESS MSW, DEL, 5F, Fast Dirt, 10/08/25 – 1st HOLIDAY EXPRESS was ridden hard from the outside gate; chased the even pace from ~2L back in the clear 4W racing to ~3/8 pole, then began advancing in the 4P on the turn; took control approaching the ¼ pole, then extended into a clear 1.5L lead at the top of the stretch before holding firm to the wire (despite remaining on L lead till late). Sat a wide trip (potential upgrade) but also benefited from his wide post as it granted him a clear path throughout, helping him grind his way into contention without getting stopped. Didn’t particularly run like a horse crying out for two-turns.
AMY’S MUSIC Allowance, LRL, 1M, Fast Dirt, 06/06/25 – 4th AMY’S MUSIC broke a little tardily but managed to stay on terms; tracked the even pace from ~2L back while under a tight hold in the clear racing to the turn, then made a brief bid in ~4P and drew to within 1L of the lead ~1/4 pole; he then gave game chase battling for 2nd to the 1/8th pole before fading quickly late. Sat a wide trip (upgrade). His big move while wide on the far turn taxed his stamina for the final 1/8th; this effort and past form suggest he’s better around two turns (often less demanding). Now makes first start as a gelding with weight off; feel he can offer more at a price if ready off the bench.

Race 9: N1X Allowance, 3YO+, 1 1/8 Miles, Turf

HORSE RACE TRIP NOTE
PARACLETE Allowance, LRL, 1 1/16M, Firm Turf, 10/25/25 – 6th PARACLETE was unhurried and content to rate; took a keen hold racing ~6L off the even pace between horses in the 2P to the far turn, then crept a little closer still under a hold while tipping out into the clear 3-4W as his rivals were beginning to feel the pinch around him; straightened for the drive just ~3L off the lead in the 4P, then came under a strong ride, dove back to the inside and moved to ~1L off the lead before flattening out late (maybe hung a little). Was wide on the far turn and arguably too patiently handled (finishing effort suggested he’d have been better off gathering momentum earlier) but ultimately could have won if good enough. Scope for a little more improvement at new trip, but others seemingly hold more upside.
WHISKEYINTHEJARO Starter Alw, LRL, 1 1/16M, Firm Turf, 10/11/25 – 1st WHISKEYINTHEJARO was patiently handled ~10L off the even pace racing to the far turn, then came under a hand ride and tried to advance 3W+ on the bend but struggled to do so; was still ~10L off the lead when straightening for the drive in the 4-5P, then came under a strong L hand ride and whoosh… he suddenly rolled down the outside to get up on the wire. Sat a good trip in a fairly run contest; result/speed fig fair. Once again proved that regardless of the distance, his stretch kick is devastating at this level, and you can bet he’ll be rolling late again today. The type of horse you want to keep onside.
DR. HYDE Starter Alw, LRL, 1 1/16M, Firm Turf, 10/17/25 – 1st DR. HYDE showed absolutely zero early speed; chased the even pace from ~13L back in a detached last while being nudged along to the far turn, then began to creep a little closer under patient handling as the field bunched racing to the top of the lane but remained in last; hit the top of the lane ~7L off the lead in last, 2W, then switched out from behind a wall of horses into the clear 6W ~1/8 pole (costing him momentum); from there, he was finally asked for an effort and whoosh, he exploded to the front and won going away. This win was more impressive than the PPs suggest – he had no right to be winning from where he was at the top of the lane or even at the 1/8th pole; replay suggests he can improve again with extra distance, a stronger early tempo, and/or a smoother stretch run (maybe if he’s asked for his effort earlier, too?). Live.
T REX Claiming 5k, PID, 1 1/16M, Fast Synth, 10/21/25 – 6th T REX was unhurried from the inside gate; trailed the field in a detached last, ~14L off the even pace to the top of the lane, then passed a legless foe to take 6th but remained well behind. Hard to know whether something went amiss here, or whether he was just that outclassed. Will need much more switching back to the turf on barn debut today.
BORDER WAR Allowance, GP, 1 1/2M, Firm Turf, 01/05/25 – 4th BORDER WAR took a strong hold tracking the slow pace from ~2L back in 2-3P racing around the first two turns to the 3/8 pole; came under a hand ride and advanced in the 3P rounding the bend to hit the top of the stretch just about level (with two other horses) for the lead; he then failed to go on with his two main rivals and finished evenly on his left lead, losing 3rd late. A decent effort in a competitive race; sat a perfect trip close to a slow pace that held well, though, (downgrade); didn’t like how he remained on his L lead late either (maybe he was feeling something, reason for layoff?). Steps back down in trip and faces easier returning from a lengthy layoff today.
PHIL’S PRINCE Allowance, LRL, 1 1/16M, Firm Turf, 10/25/25 – 4th PHIL’S PRINCE brushed with a rival leaving the gate and lacked speed; chased the even pace from ~6L back while 3-4W racing to ~1/2m pole, then advanced in hand; entered the far turn just 2L off the lead, then continued advancing under a hand ride 3-4W; straightened for the drive 1L back in 3rd, then shook off a light bump ~3/16 pole and stayed on willingly to draw level for the lead ~1/16 pole before a pair of closers flashed past in the final strides. Was wide both turns – UPGRADE. A tremendous effort against tough rivals in career start #4; a more ground saving trip and further natural improvement could make this hard trying runner very live today.
MR. KEYS Allowance, LRL, 1 1/16M, Firm Turf, 10/25/25 – 5th MR. KEYS was headstrong without cover having broken from the outside gate; pulled hard ~2L off the even pace in 2nd, ~3W racing to ~5/8 pole, then his rider let him stroll into a slim lead racing into the far turn; entered the bend a head up in the 2P, then his rider shook him up and he advanced a little to hit the top of the lane 1L up; from there, he stayed on willingly to the wire (despite drifting about a little) but was swarmed by rivals in the final 100Y and dropped back to 5th. Good effort at 13/1. Pulled hard with no cover; maybe could have finished better if he’d been able to slot in behind runners and save a little more for the stretch? Overall, this seemed a fairly good reflection of his ability, though. New rider will need to get him to settle.
NAME IT Allowance, LRL, 1 1/16M, Firm Turf, 10/03/25 – 6th NAME IT was unhurried after bobbling at the break; took a keen hold chasing the even pace under patient handling from ~10L back in the 2-3P racing to the far turn, then remained under a hold when absent of a clear path racing to the top of the lane; straightened for the drive ~7L behind in last, then angled out into the clear 5W, came under a strong ride and finished evenly, never threatening. His bobble at the start and the fact he had to wait for room racing to the top of the didn’t help his cause, and he remains lightly raced, so likely can improve on this run. He also traveled with enough zest to suggest he can sit closer to the pace if necessary. But he had a clear shot in the stretch if good enough in this race and I’d really have liked to have seen him finish with a little more gusto to feel confident about him reversing for with #7 today.
PRIMED TO GO John Forbes Memorial S., FH, 2M, Good Turf, 10/18/25 – 6th PRIMED TO GO traveled well riding the rail under patient handling towards rear racing to the top of the lane, then looked to check off heels just inside the ¼ pole as the leaders were sprinting away before he faded. Not sure how much we can learn from this; seemed to travel into the race with good enthusiasm, though; I don’t think that this defeat means he’s any lesser horse than he was earlier in the summer.
ENNIS TOWN Starter Alw, BAQ, 1 1/8M, Firm Turf, 10/10/25 – 4th ENNIS TOWN shifted off the inside into the clear 3-4W early and raced enthusiastically chasing the even pace from ~2L back into the far turn; continued traveling well to ~1/4 pole, then came under pressure and stayed on evenly for 4th but lacked the kick to truly threaten. A decent effort; not sure why the jocks was so intent on getting him out from behind horses into the clear early; he ultimately ended up racing wide which cost him a position or two (very slight upgrade). Overall, this seemed a fair reflection of his ability, though. Even finish suggests he’s best with a strong pace to aim at.
NOTHINGBUTBLUESKY (AE) Allowance, LRL, 1 1/16M, Firm Turf, 10/25/25 – 7th NOTHINGBUTBLUESKY was unhurried and content to race on the rail in a detached last, ~10L off the even pace racing to the far turn; crept a little closer while still under a hold as the field bunched racing to the top of the lane; straightened for the drive ~6-7L off the lead in the 2P; remained under a hold (!) to ~1/8th pole, then came under a hand ride and finished well but had far too much to do. Was never put into the race and could have almost certainly finished closer with a different ride. An upgradable effort: expect more if drawing in today (if not, bet back wherever he next shows up!). Blinkers on.
KORU (AE) Starter Alw, LRL, 1 1/8M, Firm Turf, 11/02/25 – 1st KORU traveled well tracking/chasing the hot pace from ~4-5L back on the rail in 4th to the far turn; waited for room while his rider kept the revs up on the leader’s heels racing to ~1/4 pole, then he squeezed his way through between foes in the 3P, turned for home ~1/2L down and edged away in the lane. Sat a great ground saving trip, received a good setup, good ride (downgrade). At the same time, though, he did absolutely nothing when he reached the front (ears pricked up and looked to be waiting on others) so maybe does have a little more in store if required?
CLOUD MUSIC (AE) Starter Alw, LRL, 1M, Good Turf, 11/09/25 – 3rd CLOUD MUSIC sped forward to lead on the rail; set a fast, uncontested pace in hand to the far turn, then began to tread water, had his lead reduced and came under a strong ride; hit the top of the lane just ~1/2L in front, fully extended, then somehow managed to very gamely stick on for 3rd, holding off all bar two of his rivals. Tried to do his thing again but just wasn’t good enough/didn’t have it in him on this day (maybe bounced off huge win 2-back?); result/speed fig fair for this effort. We can probably expect a similar performance if drawing in today, though the 7-day turnaround has to be a concern considering he puts so much into his races.
SNOOKIE BEAR (AE) Allowance, BAQ, 1M, Firm Turf, 11/01/25 – 8th SNOOKIE BEAR lacked speed after taking a little bump at the break; chased the honest pace while being gently nudged along from ~10L+ back on the rail to the top of the lane, then failed to improve. Never involved at all against this level of competition. Class relief and barn switch point towards a better showing today; would have still liked to have seen a little more here to be at all confident, though.
OUTRUNNER (AE) Old Dominion Derby, CNL, 1 1/8M, Soft Turf, 09/06/25 – 3rd OUTRUNNER traveled well prompting the modest pace from ~1L back in 2nd, 2W, racing to the top of the lane, then came under pressure as the eventual winner loomed up on his outer; could not go with the winner in the lane but did respond to pressure and forged into a clear 2nd ~1/8th pole, only to lose that position too a fast finishing deep closer late. Sat a really nice trip close to a slow pace and looked to handle soft turf just fine (DOWNGRADE). Still, this was a solid effort against tough rivals that makes him live on the drop today. Lasix back on.

Race 10: Claiming 7.5K, 3YO+, 1 Mile, Dirt

HORSE RACE TRIP NOTE
PUDGE BOY PALACE Claiming 7.5k, LRL, 6F, Fast Dirt, 10/26/25 – 2nd PUDGE BOY PALACE chased the slow pace from ~2-3L back in 3rd while in the clear 3W racing to the 5/16 pole, then came under a strong R hand ride and dropped back slightly (but remained in 3rd) as the leader kicked in front; straightened for the drive ~5L back in 3rd, then stayed on evenly into a non-threatening 2nd late. Was fairly positioned as a 10/1 shot in a slowly run race; result/speed fig seem fair and another similar effort seems likely up in trip today.
ALILNALOT Claiming 7.5k, LRL, 1M, Sloppy Dirt, 09/07/25 – 6th ALILNALOT was rushed up from between horses after taking a slight bump at the break and took the lead on the rail; set a blistering, pressured pace to ~3/8 pole, then began dropping back inside on the run to the top of the lane and stopped. Something seemingly went amiss here – he was done at the 3/8 pole and ran too badly to be true. Might be noteworthy that he did the same the last time he ran on the slop? Has been given time since and is probably best judged on his prior starts.
MIDNIGHT RENEGADE Claiming 7.5k, LRL, 6F, Fast Dirt, 10/26/25 – 3rd MIDNIGHT RENEGADE was very slow into stride; trailed the field in a detached last, ~10L off the slow pace while being hustled along into the bend, then made very slight progress, turned for home ~8L behind and improved with an even finish past beaten rivals into 3rd. Sat a clean trip over an inadequate distance. Can be given a small upgrade for closing/improving his position into a slow pace.
SHOGUN BE FAST Starter Alw, LRL, 1M, Good Turf, 11/09/25 – 7th SHOGUN BE FAST showed decent speed along the rail heading into the first turn, then took a couple of awkward steps when steadying off heels into the bend and again at the mid-point of the bend; finally settled ~3-4L off the even pace on the rail in 3rd; traveled well in this position to ~7/16 pole, then tipped off the rail and tried to advance on the turn but failed to do so; dropped back to reach the top of the ~6L behind ~3W, then weakened further. Had a troubled start to the race but in hindsight, it made no major difference to the trip/result, speed fig fair. Drops in class today and switches surface off 7-days rest.
ADDICTED TO YOU Starter Alw, LRL, 1 1/8M, Good Turf, 09/26/25 – 7th ADDICTED TO YOU lacked speed along the inside early, then became rank on the run into the first turn; eventually settled ~10L off the honest pace in mid-pack/rear; traveled well in this spot to the far turn, then waited on the rail in behind horses before staying on under a very mild hand ride. Plenty of reason to believe he’s better than this result/speed fig suggests: 1) he wasted energy over racing behind horses on the rail into the first turn. 2) he was forced to wait on the rail in traffic when he really needed to be building momentum on the far turn, leaving him with too much to do. 3) he was only given a mild hand ride in the lane as his rider did not feel the pair had sufficient room; he spent more time looking over his shoulder than riding a finish. If transferring his ability to the dirt, this runner can improve on this effort and play a role.
ADMIT NOTHING Claiming 5k, CT, 1 1/16M, Fast Dirt, 10/03/25 – 2nd ADMIT NOTHING was sent forward in the 2P; pressed the even pace from ~1/2L back in 2nd to the wire first time; was then joined by a rival on his outside, advanced slightly and vied for the lead between foes while being nudged along to the far turn; came under a stronger ride, responded and stayed on willingly to the wire in a prolonged duel but could not get by the eventual winner. A game effort in defeat from a tricky racing position (contesting the lead while tight between horses); this track was presenting a very strong speed bias which no doubt aided him, however (DOWNGRADE).
SOUTHERN HORSE (ARG) Starter Alw, LRL, 1M, Good Turf, 11/09/25 – 5th SOUTHERN HORSE chased the hot pace from ~9L back in rear while towards the inside racing to the far turn, then snuck closer under patient handling behind horses on the rail before staying on evenly in the lane. This was a decent effort at 63/1 but at the same time, he couldn’t have asked for a better rail skimming trip or pace setup (DOWNGRADE). Switches back to dirt off 7-days rest.
MISTER AGENT Claiming 7.5k, LRL, 6F, Fast Dirt, 11/07/25 – 5th MISTER AGENT drifted in at the start and brushed up against his rival for ~5 strides before eventually coming away in rear; shifted out into the clear 4W ~9/16 pole and made a big mid race move into the even pace; entered the bend just 3L off the lead in 3rd, 4W, then came under a strong ride and dropped back again as the front two kicked away; reached the top of the lane fully extended ~8L behind in 4th, then weakened further. Made an inefficient mid-race move after a messy start but overall, didn’t have an excuse – this was a disappointing effort at 2/1, whichever way you slice it. Didn’t look to be crying out for a mile and will need more.
UNCLE IRISH Claiming 7.5k, LRL, 1M, Fast Dirt, 10/17/25 – 1st UNCLE IRISH rushed up along the rail having broken in from the inside post; traveled okay racing ~1L off the even pace towards the inside to ~3/8 pole, then came under pressure to hold his position as the real running began and did so; cut the corner into the lane when still ~1L back, then determinedly edged away in the lane for a 1L score. He couldn’t have asked for a better ground saving trip (DOWNGRADE) but still, it was hard not to like this game victory over today’s C&D and chances are he’ll be right there again today facing a slightly weaker group.

Horses to Follow

R8: MASAYOSHI (30/1 ML)

Listed at 30/1 on the morning line, MASAYOSHI won’t attract much attention from the public in today’s eighth, an N1X allowance going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. But he’s far from impossible, and there’s a legitimate case to be made for this 3-year-old son of AUTHENTIC. He showed flashes of ability for Brad Cox earlier in the year, breaking his maiden at second asking with a 73 Beyer. After a summer on the shelf and a transfer to Bruno Tessore, he then resurfaced 9 days ago for his dirt debut, sprinting 6 furlongs here at Laurel. That comeback run was better than it looks: he was outpaced early at a distance short of his best, lost ground on the turn, and almost certainly needed the race after logging just four works since early September. Even so, he stayed on gamely to finish just over four lengths back in fourth with a 70 Beyer—a number that puts him within shouting distance of today’s main contenders. Now he gets what he really wants: two turns on the dirt. His return effort suggested stretching out would move him forward, and his pedigree screams route ability too. His dam, WILD PRINCESS, was a multiple graded stakes winner around two turns, and his granddam is none other than AZERI—Horse of the Year, champion older female, and an 11-time Grade 1 winner. Second off the layoff, with fitness on the rise and a far more suitable setup in front of him, MASAYOSHI looks poised to take a meaningful step forward. At 30/1 on the line, he has every right to outrun his odds and punch into the exotics at a monster price.

R9: PHIL’S PRINCE (12/1 ML)

Today’s ninth is one of the best betting races you’ll find anywhere, with countless ways to go depending on how you read it. One horse who absolutely deserves a look is PHIL’S PRINCE. What this Madison Meyers-trained 3-year-old son of CAIRO PRINCE lacks in experience, he more than makes up for in upside—and he’s already shown a knack for outrunning expectations. Three starts back, in just his second career outing, he broke his maiden at 19/1. He came right back to finish third at 11/1 when stepping up to face winners for the first time. And last out, despite traveling wide every step of the way, he was beaten only a length into fourth at 20/1 against a field very similar to the one he meets today. His improving pattern jumps off the page: TimeformUS figures of 80, 84, 97, and 102 show he’s moving forward every time, and there’s nothing to suggest he’s reached his ceiling just yet. If he can work out a more efficient trip than he did last time and put that growing experience to use in career start number five, another step forward seems well within reach. And if he takes that step, he’ll have every chance of landing right in the winners’ circle at a square price.

R10: ADDICTED TO YOU (6/1 ML)

Although Jamie Ness’ duo will take plenty of support in today’s nightcap—a $7.5k claimer going a mile on the main track—ADDICTED TO YOU is the kind of horse worth giving a second look at a price. The 7-year-old has endured difficult trips against tougher company in both his last two starts, yet still held his own at long odds and posted speed figures—arguably better than they look—that stack up nicely against this softer field. While it’s true that the majority of his work has come on grass, his last dirt start, which came off a layoff, was a winning one with a 64 Beyer. His connections clearly feel the time is right for another try on the main track, and there’s nothing in his profile to suggest he can’t fire again on the surface. He also projects to get exactly the kind of setup he wants: a lively early pace for him to settle behind before making his run. At what should be a healthy number on the board, he’s the type who can sneak into the frame late and spice up the verticals.

  • Hi Will,
How are you? Hope all is good with you.
I was looking at your race selections + noticed that in the 9th + 10th I don’t believe they match up with your Horses To Follow. In the 9th it looks like the #6, Border War, is your race selection but your Horse To Follow is the #7 Phil’s Prince. In the 10th it looks like the 1A, Uncle Irish, is your race selection but your Horse To Follow is the #5 Addicted To You. Are these simply mistakes or are the race selections your actual choices + you’re just trying to make us aware of others who are worthy of a write up in the Horses To Follow section? Thanks Will,
    Good luck 2day,
    Wayne

    • Hi Wayne,
Both typos I’m grateful you picked up on. Changes have been made. Good luck to you too, another eye-crossing card today!

  • Thanks Will! Appreciate it! Ignore the time stamp on my comments. For some reason it looks like it’s 5 hours ahead. 😄 Any insight on scratch of Sirona at Aqueduct? Wasn’t gonna bet but was gonna follow. Thanks again!
