#9 WORLD TOUR (9/2 ml)
Interesting entrant for Bill Mott here, as this Tourist filly brought $130K (26 times the sire’s stud fee) at the April Ocala sale after breezing a furlong in 10.1. Very notable drill on Jan 19 as she worked with CANDY MAN ROCKET, who was coming off a huge 9-length maiden win ten days earlier, and of course emerged from that drill to win the Sam Davis Stakes @ Tampa. Incidentally, CANDY MAN ROCKET’s maiden win has turned into a key race, with 3 horses returning to win already, and another one finishing second by a nose. Most recently, WORLD TOUR appears to have worked with ANNEX and/or TIESTO in her 5-furlong turf drill on Feb 13. That sends my antenna up for a couple of reasons, one being that impressive winner ANNEX was showing the same type of slow 5-furlong turf drill (1:04 flat) heading into his own debut on Jan 16. The other reason is, I believe Mott has used 3-horse team drills involving TIESTO with a couple of prior winners already (mentioned in my ANNEX write-up here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/46278663 ). Appears very well-meant in this spot; expecting a good run.
One other horse I must mention here is the McPeek entrant SEMBLE JUSTE (5/1 ml), who ran decent in a similar one-mile turf race on Jan 24 and returned to work a best-of-51 bullet with FOREVER BOSS, who came out of that drill to win last weekend when getting put up on the DQ over TRACY FLICK (same rider Luis Saez aboard). Also worth noting she showed improvement in her prior second-off-the-layoff start, so she appears ready to move forward today.
