0-for-2 on Saturday, with ANOTHER WOMAN running second @ 15/1 odds. The $2 exacta behind the odds-on favorite PASS THE CHAMPAGNE paid $50.40
Gulfstream – Race 6
#2 SPOTTERS HILL (8/1 ml)
Bill Mott firster comes into this race with a very nice-looking worktab, beginning with an apparent 3-horse team drill in mid-December with NEWSWORTHY and COLTON’S COMMAND. You may remember NEWSWORTHY, as I gave him out in this column last Sunday when he ran second @ Tampa Bay (at 13/1 odds) behind the odds-on favorite KURAMATA ($2 exacta paid $35.60). COLTON’S COMMAND is unraced, but is a very promising prospect that I’ve been following since last summer (should be entered soon, fwiw). SPOTTERS HILL and COLTON’S COMMAND then worked together two more times in a row before SPOTTERS HILL then worked the next two times with THORN, who came out of those drills to win a similar 1 1/16 mile turf race on Feb 21 (final time 1:41.66). Next up was a drill with the talented maiden filly CARAMEL SWIRL, who ran strong seconds in her first two starts vs. eventual stakes winners MALATHAAT and MISS BRAZIL. Following that, SPOTTERS HILL worked with SCHOKOLADE, who came out of that drill to win gate-to-wire at Aqueduct yesterday. Most recently, SPOTTERS HILL took part in an apparent 3-horse team drill (involving COLTON’S COMMAND once again), this one very notable because it was a slow (1:04 flat) turf drill, a definite training angle that Mott has used with multiple impressive turf winners at this meet, including ANNEX, WORLD TOUR, WHITE FROST, etc. Obviously very live here at the big morning line price.
Win record: 26-for-100 (26% winners)
Total mutuels: $220.90 ($8.50 average win price)
