No play on Sunday at Belmont, as ACUSHLA scratched with the race coming off the turf.
Churchill Downs – Race 13
#3 MAGIC QUEST (9/2 ml)
Second-time starter for George Arnold debuted with a strong effort @ Keeneland on their Opening Day card, breaking sharply from the outside post and engaging in a 3-horse speed duel pretty much from the opening bell. Was well-positioned outside and appeared to be moving very well as they turned for home, which held true as she took the lead in upper stretch and continued battling hard right to the wire, missing by a neck at the finish. That effort was flattered when third-place finisher STAND BY YOU returned to win last week. Since that Opening Day effort, MAGIC QUEST appeared to work heads-up on April 16 with impressive Keeneland winner ILLIOGAMI, who is entered earlier on today’s card in Race 4 vs. ANOTHER WOMAN (whom you may remember from Kentucky Oaks entrant PASS THE CHAMPAGNE’s maiden win). Should run well here.
Just a quick point on the Chad Brown firster SMITH’S POINT, she was outworked on Feb 12 by the unraced CROWDING OUT (and subsequently worked with that one 3 more times in a row). CROWDING OUT is actually entered tomorrow @ Belmont, so a good run from SMITH’S POINT would flatter that one heading into tomorrow.
Maiden Focus record:
Win record: 33-for-135 (24% winners)
Total mutuels: $267.40 ($8.10 average win price)
