#2 COLTON’S COMMAND (5/1 ml)
Been waiting a long time for this colt to be entered, as I’ve actually been following him since last summer at Saratoga. He had worked multiple times with LOVESTRUCK (a 2-for-2 stakes winner on grass) before disappearing suddenly, but he resurfaced at Payson Park in December and has continued working with several good horses. He went twice with NEWSWORTHY, a 4yo barnmate who ran second for us @ 13/1 odds about a month ago. He worked three times with SPOTTERS HILL, who ran second for us @ 6/1 odds a week later. He also worked with FINAL BELLE, who won for us @ $18.00 earlier this month. Regarding that drill with FINAL BELLE, it was one of those slow 1:04 turf drills that Mott has used with several winners at this meet (you’ll also see it in the PP’s of today’s stakes favorites WORLD TOUR and ANNEX, for example). Well-drawn in the 2-hole here, as COLTON’S COMMAND figures to show speed and has a good chance to make it to the turn in front, cut the corner and assume the advantage down the backstretch (similar to the trip SPOTTERS HILL got in his debut). Expecting a good run today.
Gulfstream – Race 7
#10 CADENCIA (7/2 ml)
This filly has been in excellent form since arriving in Florida, running a very strong second behind the good stakes filly CANDACE O, while outfinishing the good return winner CAUSINGAHULLBALOO (who actually finished 2nd by a neck in her following start, but returned to win after that). In that race, CADENCIA was the only horse closing the gap on CANDACE O late (CAUSINGAHULLBALOO went evenly). Following that sharp effort, CADENCIA ran another strong second behind ALWAYZ LATE, who returned to win an allowance race in her next start. Clearly CADENCIA likes the turf course here, and has been very competitive vs. allowance/stakes types. Won’t be a maiden much longer.
