0-for-1 on Sunday, as OVERBORE was tons the best at even-money but finished third by a half-length after blowing the break. Looked like he might’ve reared up and hit the side of the gate when coming out. Tab for next time.
Note: Both these races were scheduled for grass, but will be run on the main track.
Keeneland – Race 3
#10 REALM OF LAW (3/1 ml)
Big, striking grey for Chad Brown worked a couple of times with SIFTING SANDS prior to that one winning a similar one-mile turf race @ Tampa on 3/13 (final time 1:35.03). Of greater interest however is his workout on 3/20, where he outworked the talented KURAMATA (2-for-2 this year, including a nice 16/1 exacta price on top of our pick NEWSWORTHY back on 2/21 @ Tampa Bay Downs)
Here’s the video of the REALM OF LAW/KURAMATA drill: https://www.xbtv.com/video/kuramata/kuramata-outside-and-realm-of-law-worked-4-furlongs-in-49-80-at-payson-park-on-march-20th-2021/
Keeneland – Race 5
#6 PURPLE DREAM (5/1 ml)
Rather incredibly, this Paulo Lobo entrant went off at 54/1 while much the best in his Turfway Park last month, only losing because the horse to his outside came over and completely shut him off at the break, resulting in PURPLE DREAM being away dead-last by several lengths. Made a big run right through the middle of the pack to make good progress, then was interfered with again turning for home when then the horse in front of him drifted into his path ( replay available here: https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/race-replays/0/202103271510TPD5/ ). Rider Joe Talamo (21% with Lobo for a big flat-bet profit) takes over the mount today, and also note that Lobo is showing a big flat-bet profit with second-time starters. Figures to run well here.
Maiden Focus record:
Win record: 31-for-127 (24% winners)
Total mutuels: $261.60 ($8.44 average win price)
