AQUEDUCT – 12/17/21

RACE 1: 2-5-10-9

#2 BECAUSEOFTHEBRAVE comes up to NY and drops in class for trainer Bill Morey, who already has a winner on this circuit earlier this year.  She exits a solid effort at Churchill Downs and should be in a good position from just off the pace.  All signs point to her being a short price as well.

RACE 2: 1-2-3-5

#1 QUALITY STONES goes 2nd off a claim and drops in class for trainer Wayne Potts.  This daughter of Quality Road is the lone speed and should be well clear in the opening stages under the apprentice who earned his first NY win on Thursday.  They’ll have to catch her for the money.

RACE 3: 4-3-2-6

If #4 OPT is able to run anymore then he can be a major threat in here.  His two dirt races here last winter were strong enough to win this affair and he should be a square price to boot.  There’s enough pace to set things up for him in here and he was scratched out of a softer spot on Thursday.

RACE 4: 7-2-3-1

#7 CAUSE OF ACTION raced along the inside last time out and those paths may not have been the quickest.  He goes 2nd off a layoff today and drops in class for trainer Eddie Barker and the speed in here is suspect.

RACE 5: 9-1-6-4

#9 AFILADA has been disadvantaged by two subpar trips to start her career and now drops in class.  She should be in position on the outside from the start and towers over this field on form.  She is training well to boot and looks like a reasonable Pick 5 single.

RACE 6: 8-7-9-5

The debut effort of #8 SLOW CROSSING was strong enough to be considered a major contender in his first try against winners.  She was under the whip early to stay within range last time out then angled out wide on a day where the rail was the place to be.  Trainer Rudy Rodriguez is 22% with 2nd time starters off of maiden wins on dirt ($2.15 ROI).

RACE 7: 4-3-7-5

#4 ZOOMER goes 2nd off a claim by trainer Robby Falcone, Jr. and cuts back in distance.  Falcone’s barn is 25% with dirt starters cutting back in distance over the last 5 years, good for a $3.31 ROI.  There’s enough pace in here to set up his late bid and you should get a price as well.

RACE 8: 3-7-1-5

#3 BASTET goes 2nd off a claim and figures to be a major pace threat in this spot.  She moves up in class, but has found a particularly weak field for this level.  Aqueduct is her favorite racetrack and she looks to be back in form based on her last performance.

RACE 9: 11-6-9-7

#11 MR. FIDGET switches surfaces for trainer Neville Henry and should be a late player today.  The race he exits from two starts back was productive for the level and this is a far weaker field.  This guy was a length behind the favorite that day and now figures to get a strong pace to run at in the late stages.
