Nick Tammaro’s Aqueduct Analysis – Saturday, April 17

AQUEDUCT – 4/17/2021

RACE 1: 5-1-4

#5 DARIA’S ANGEL is the one to beat in the opener given her tactical speed, as she should stalk outside her main rival, #1 EXCESS CAPACITY.  This daughter of Gemologist is in good form and loves this oval, so look for her to assert herself in here.

RACE 2: 2-9-7

#2 JADE’S DREAM is likely a better turf horse and should appreciate the surface change. He knocked some rust off with a try last month against maiden claimers and should be on the lead in this spot.  If he runs back to his runner-up finish in late September under today’s pilot, he’ll be very tough to beat.

RACE 3: 9-3-5-4

#9 DANCING BUCK moves back to turf, and he showed real promise on debut in a runner-up finish going this trip.  He has an ideal outside post and gets Lasix for the first time today.  There’s a reasonable chance he proves to be a better horse on turf as well.

RACE 4: 6-5-3

The success on Friday afternoon enjoyed by Oscar Barrera III makes you want to upgrade #6 MINE THE COIN as that son of Speightstown drops in class second off a claim. He is better on fast dirt and should improve against weaker, and the hot barn is just another perk.

RACE 5: 2-6-7

#2 MO FAITH is a likely heavy favorite at 2nd asking for Kelly Breen after breaking his maiden on debut at Gulfstream.  This home bred was 16-1 last time out and surged late to get the job done.  Breen is 2-4 with 2nd time starters coming off of maiden wins on turf, good for a $4.35 ROI.

RACE 6: 6-4-2-1

#6 MY FIRST GRAMMY is the one to catch for trainer Bob Klesaris as he was beaten to the lead last time out but hung in gamely to save the place dough.  He figures to be loose in this field based on how things look on paper and bug boy Luis Cardenas is at his best on the front end.

RACE 7: 5-4-7

#5 MARKET ALERT is going to be the best price of the win candidates and has the best win credentials.  He overcame the bias last time out to win from just off the pace and now goes 2nd off a layoff for the underrated Jimmy Ryerson.  The pace should be there to set up his late run as well.

RACE 8: 4-1-7

The best idea in this Woodhaven seems to be to take a swing against #1 HARD LOVE and #4 SHAWDYSHAWDYSHAWDY is the right one to try.  He was a solid second at Tampa Bay Downs last time out and now returns to NY for a red hot barn. There should be more than enough pace to set up his late run too.

RACE 8: 11-2-4-5

There’s little on which to build a strong opinion in this nightcap, but #11 SASSY MELISSA has the best and most recent turf form.  She showed ability in her first two outings for trainer Dave Donk and has an ideal outside post.
