AQUEDUCT – 4/24/22

RACE 1: 2-6-7-1

#2 FAST N FEARIOUS is clearly the one to beat in the opener as the main speed on paper.  He nearly wired the field last time out before getting collared late and faces a weaker bunch today than he did that afternoon.  Look for him to graduate in this spot.

RACE 2: 1-5-6-2

#1 KEMBA can cap a chalky double as she returns off a layoff for trainer Ray Handal.  She is quick enough to get command in this field early and is also capable of sitting just off the pace.  Saving ground on the inner turf course is pivotal and she should be able to do that from the outset.

RACE 3: 6-1-5-7

The key here is to bet against #1 YO CUZ, who has form that is dressed up by track biases and easy early leads.  It also looks as if she’ll get more of a battle early and now that trainer Jamie Ness is winning in NY, #6 STARSHIP LAOBAN becomes an interesting player.  She should be in stalk and pounce territory right from the outset.

RACE 4: 5-1-4-9

#5 ATHENRY returns off a break following a solid effort in his first try against winners.  He came to hand at once late last year and is capable of being a major player from the outset in here.  This is the right trip and he can stalk and pounce in this affair at a square price.

RACE 5: 4-1-8-13

#4 SUPERSNAKE is a firster by 10% debut sire Animal Kingdom out of a dam who won 2x on the lawn.  She has dropped 4 winners from 5 foals to try the turf so there’s pedigree here.  This field also seriously lacks talent once the favorite came out.

RACE 6: 3-1-6-5

#3 MR. PETE is a pace player first off a claim by John Toscano, Jr. after showing speed and fading late last time out.  The last time he raced at this level he narrowly missed after contesting a hot pace and he should be involved in the early tempo from the outset again today.

RACE 7: 7-1-4-3

#7 JUMPSTER shortens up in distance and is likely to be most effective sprinting.  This is a massive rider change with Hall of Famer Javier Castellano taking over for Heman Harkie.  He goes 3rd off a layoff here and should be in position to gather them in late with a good pace expected in this affair.

RACE 8: 5-6-7-1

#5 SAIL BY can get the lead in here and that makes her dangerous for Leah Gyarmati.  This filly was wide the entire way in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and understandably tired late.  The inside paths were best on that card and she was squarely against the grain of the track.  Jose Lezcano giving her an aggressive ride would really help her cause.

RACE 9: 10-1-3-12

In a debut where he made up real ground into a slow pace, #10 HIGHGATE ROAD ran a bang-up race.  He is training forwardly for his 2nd start and should find the competition here quite a bit softer.  Look for him to arrive on the scene late in a big way.
