AQUEDUCT – 12/2/21
RACE 1: 6-5-1
The addition of blinkers will really help #6 WAXMAN, who has run in spots in each of his last two starts. This colt is likely in need of the ultimate equipment change too, and his delayed 3YO debut suggests he is a tad ouchy. This field, however, is one he dominates on paper.
RACE 2: 3-9-2-8
The trip that #3 SOCIAL WHIRL figures to get in this spot will be favorable. She has good tactical speed and put a strong late charge into #9 GRUDGE when they met back in late October at Belmont. She has been in good form for a while and is a major player again.
RACE 3: 8-1-6-5
#8 DUCKPHAT was wide much of the way last time out and that was not where you wanted to be on opening week of this meet. The rails were down on the turf courses and the inside paths were strongest. This late running filly will offer value here an dher effort 3 back makes her a contender for top honors.
RACE 4: 4-7-6-5
#4 GLORY DAYS is a second time starter who debuted with a handy win from just off the pace. She earned a speed figure that day that makes her virtually impossible to beat on paper in this field. The knocks are that she raced over a sloppy track on debut and may not get much setup here. Those, however, seem to be specious.
RACE 5: 10-4-9-5
Trainer Linda Rice is very good with 2nd time starters in MSW races on turf (20%, $2.30 ROI) and #10 RED FORTRESS did enough on debut to be the favorite here. She made a strong late move after breaking poorly in that affair and will be more involved early with a cleaner start. You will get some value here to boot.
RACE 6: 7-6-2-8
The huge step forward taken by #7 BIG AL’S GAL off the claim last time out was eye-opening. She has plenty of upside in her new trainer’s care and rates to get a terrific pace-stalking trip from the outside today. Use her prominently in the Pick 6 along with #6 CADEAUX DE PAIX.
RACE 7: 7-2-9-6
Nothing went right for #7 RECKLESS SPIRIT last time out, as he attempted to rally wide into a glacial early pace. He now figures to get a far better setup over a late autumn turf course he’s fared well on before. Look for him to come calling late as a live price player in here.
RACE 8: 2-10-6-7
#2 SPACE LAUNCH rallied well while wide last time out and also received no pace setup. He figures to improve here against a weaker field and with an ideal inside post from which he can save ground. This colt has worked his way back into form following the poor Saratoga effort and is the most trustworthy entrant in the field.
RACE 9: 9-2-6-5
If you believe that the rail was the place to be on closing day at Belmont, then #9 GUNTON ROE is the horse to bet here. He was 3-1 in his unveiling and battled from start to finish en route to a 4th place finish. The blinkers going on should sharpen him up early, and the added ground will be no issue whatsoever.
