AQUEDUCT – 1/20/23

RACE 1: 5-2-1-4

The improvement shown at second asking by #5 FRANNIE LEW for trainer Dave Donk makes her the one to beat today.  She is the main speed on paper and should be tough to handle if able to get loose in the opening stages.  Trainer Dave Donk’s barn has heated up of late after a bad run in the 2nd half of 2022.

RACE 2: 6-2-5-3

#6 WICKED LADY is stretching out in distance for trainer Eddie Barker and adding blinkers.  That should make her the one to catch and she exits a stronger N2L than this one.  Her best dirt races make her a major player and she’s a deserving favorite.

RACE 3: 1-4-6-5

This is the second start off a layoff for #1 GREATEST LOVE, who made a strong late move last time out in her first start in almost five months.  She faced a better field at the 12.5k level than this 20k heat, and trainer Charlie Baker is 28% with claimers on dirt going 2nd off of 45-180 day breaks ($2.37 ROI).  Look for this one to arrive on the scene late.

RACE 4: 3-4-5-2

#3 DOCTOR LOVE moved prematurely last time out and was outfinished late to check in third against similar foes.  He duplicated his form off the claim and is clearly the one to beat with a better timed ride.  This is also a much softer event at this level than was that January 7 tilt.

RACE 5: 5-6-7-8

#5 K D KAKES was bet down to 9/2 favoritism on debut and wound up making a late move after a very poor start. That was enough for Robby Falcone, Jr. to try this filly in a MSW heat and she showed little after another sluggish break.  This is the proper class level and she’s getting Lasix for a barn that has heated up significantly of late.

RACE 6: 5-3-1-6

This is the second off a layoff start for #5 FREUDIAN, who made a middle move last time out to reach contention before flattening out late.  She adds blinkers on the cutback today for a barn that is 40% over the last five years with claimers on dirt going from routes to sprints ($5.91 ROI).  This gal should be heard from in the late stages today in a big way.

RACE 7: 3-6-4-1

#3 LOCALLY OWNED is a late running type who made a bold move off the far turn last time out before coming up just short.  The winner of that race came right back to score again and this son of Distorted Humor now lands in a softer spot.  He is a true distance type who’ll be tough to handle if he runs back to his last.

RACE 8: 4-8-3-5

#4 CHESS SPECTACULAR takes the biggest class drop in racing for Charlie Baker after three tries at the MSW level.  This will be his first start as a gelding and he gets in light as well.  The speed he showed on debut would help his chances today then he is undoubtedly the horse to beat.
