BELMONT – 6/11/2021

RACE 1: 2-1-3

#2 MYSTERY MESSENGER has simply faced much better of late, including stakes caliber performer Chaos Theory in that February 13 tilt out west.  This is the right spot class-wise and he should get a good trip stalking the rail runner.

RACE 2: 5-7-3

#5 FRILLS is the one to catch as she comes east for new trainer Rob Atras.  This mare is the quickest early in this field and was involved in a hot pace against starter allowance foes when last seen at Oaklawn.  She’s a real threat if left alone on the front end.

RACE 3: 5-1A-2-4

#5 iDENTIFIER was a rare claim by Bill Mott last time out for 50k and now re-surfaces off a break.  He has faced considerably tougher competition in recent dirt tries and has the versatility to lay a little closer in a race short on early zip.

RACE 4: 2-1-3-6

#2 PAPA SMOOTH is the one to catch on his return to the main track following a failed turf bid last month.  He ran a bang-up race on debut setting a solid pace before getting run down late.  The blinkers coming off should relax him in the opening stages, while he is still the clear speed.

RACE 5: 8-5-3-2

#8 CANARSIE ANGEL could have easily been second last time, but his rider stopped persevering in the final 100 yards, as he is inclined to do.  This one can get clear early and if so, is a major threat to go the distance.

RACE 6: 5-1-3-9

#5 HOLY BREEZE is a second time starter who showed enough potential on debut to be considered a serious win candidate.  She should have speed on the stretchout and this barn has heated up of late.

RACE 7: 4-7-3-2

#4 TIMELY TRADITION is the likely favorite in this affair given her class and consistency, and she should be able to get the early lead.  Her lifetime record at Belmont is beyond impressive and the rivals she met last time out at Churchill Downs are a solid bunch.

RACE 8: 8-7-6-2

#8 FIRST LINE is very dangerous in this affair given Mike Maker’s prowess with turfers, especially stretching out and off of claims.  This one has been meant for turf before and has performed well on dirt, and the grass could end up proving greener.

RACE 9: 13-10-4-7

#13 PORTFOLIO HEDGE is in off the AE list and is clearly the one to beat.  He is a new gelding off a layoff for trainer Chad Brown and his prior turf tries are simply worlds better than anything any rival in here has ever put forth.
