Nick Tammaro’s Belmont Analysis – Friday, May 7

BELMONT – 5/7/2021

RACE 1: 1-7-5

#1 GIACOSA returns off a layoff and was much better than her rivals in this field when last seen in 2020.  She has a cozy inside post and can stay within range in a race that lacks a lot of early zip.

RACE 2: 5-1-2

#5 ABSOLUTE COURAGE is a second time starter who showed more than enough life on debut to be considered a favorite here.  He was bet down to 6/5 that day and broke poorly before making a middle move and flattening out late.  It sets him up to clear the maiden ranks today.

RACE 3: 6-1-3

#2 AUSTRIAN is a late runner who narrowly missed last time out in a race that was run at a slow early tempo.  This race is hardly loaded with pace, but he is the one to beat based on his last three outings, and Luis Saez is likely to keep him a bit more involved early.

RACE 4: 7-6-4

#7 BARISTA VIXEN goes first off a claim by Wayne Potts, whose barn has done very well in this category over the last couple of years.  She drew favorably on the outside and should fare even better on a dry track today.

RACE 5: 6-7-5

#6 ORMA can improve in her second start off a layoff after showing speed and fading late last time out.  She has shown enough life on the turf to be given an extra look today and she will be a square price.

RACE 6: 2-1-7

#2 SIXTEEN TONS comes from the barn of Linda Rice, who does exceptionally well with runners moving from turf to dirt.  This son of Bodemeister ran a winning race in February 2020 over the dirt at Aqueduct and now faces far weaker foes today.

RACE 7: 1-7-4

#1 CHEROKEE SONG takes a big class drop and has a cozy inside post from which she can save ground from the start.  Two back at this level she ran very well and nearly scored at 4-1 in a race taken off the turf.  She is equally adept on the grass.

RACE 8: 3-5-2

#3 SHE THROWS HEAT moved early last time out and got collared late going 12 panels at Gulfstream.  She is now the likely 2nd choice in a race where she can get close early over a course she has won on before.

RACE 9: 3-10-9

#3 QUANTITATIVBREEZIN returns off a layoff but ran a race on debut that would win this thing.  She is a late running type who’ll need some pace help, but you’ll get some value here to boot.

BELMONT STATS: 82-24-11-9       $138.10
