BELMONT – 7/5/21
RACE 1: 6-5-2
#6 NO TIME ALONE is a second timer moving to the turf for trainer Wesley Ward and has a good pedigree on the dam side. She has the advantage of having started before, and that is still significant at this stage of the game.
RACE 2: 2-6-4
#2 POSSE CAN DISCO is the one to catch from the inside as he returns from a layoff for trainer Bruce Levine. This son of Posse is rather fleet of foot and should be on the engine from the outset. If he gets the lead unchallenged, he will be a threat to go the distance.
RACE 3: 5-6-3
#5 MO HEAT is a son of Outwork out of the Hall of Famer Xtra Heat. He improved moving to the dirt last time out and now gets Lasix for the first time. He is the one to catch and will offer far more value than his stablemate one door to the outside.
RACE 4: 7-4-1-5
#7 MAJESTIC SKY has improved by leaps and bounds since moving to the turf and looks to be in a spot where he is a virtual certainty to win. The third place finisher from his last start has since returned to win and this gelding is training well for this engagement.
RACE 5: 3-5-1-6
#3 STUNNING MUNNINGS has actually held his form quite well for Randi Persaud since being taken for 25k in March. She enters off a 6th place effort where she endured a wide trip and should benefit from the expected strong pace in this affair. Eric Cancel getting on board is a positive sign as well.
RACE 6: 1-6-8-5
#1 RED KNIGHT will be the bigger price of the two Bill Mott entrants in this field and has run well going this trip at Belmont. He has a cozy inside post and should get a strong setup in here with the presence of two speedsters. #6 GUFO has a solid record but lacks the killer instinct needed to win even minor stakes races.
RACE 7: 4-8-5
#4 CREATIVE CAIRO gets a jockey change to Joel Rosario as she moves down the class ladder after trying the Wonder Again in her first start against winners. This daughter of Cairo Prince rallied into a slow pace two back to break her maiden and should get a reasonable setup here at an ideal distance.
RACE 8: 5-2-1
It is very tempting to pick against #2 FIRST CAPTAIN, and the only horse you can do that with is #5 SNOW HOUSE. That son of Twirling Candy comes in off a N1X score for Brad Cox and has the look of the controlling speed on paper. If he is able to get clear early, he can post the upset as a colt on the upswing.
RACE 9: 8-9-1
#8 PROPER GRAMMAR drops in class and should get a strong pace to run at in here after failing against stakes foes last time out. She was a game winner on debut against a weak field with a big pace setup, but lands in the right spot here given the expected pace scenario.
