Nick Tammaro’s Belmont Analysis – Sunday, May 16

BELMONT – 5/16/2021

RACE 1: 4-1-6

#4 LITTLE DRAMA worked :10 at the OBS March sale and looks to be training forwardly for Steve Asmussen.  He should get command early with a clean gate break.

RACE 2: 3-6-7

#3 DUNCASTLE is the one to catch today as he seeks to turn the tables on #6 VICI.  This son of Dunkirk is quick enough to get clear early and now goes 2nd off a layoff while dropping a notch in class. He is, however, facing mainly the same kind of rivals he did in his last start.

RACE 3: 1-3-4

Nobody wins more races on turf with horses lacking pedigree for grass than Chad Brown.  He has #1 VALUE CREATION switching surfaces after showing speed and fading late after taking serious money on debut at Gulfstream.  There’s no turf pedigree to speak of, though progeny of Uncle Mo handle the green without issue.

RACE 4: 1-4-7

#1 COLORMEPAZZI cuts back in distance for Chris Englehart and should be moving well in the late stages.  He has been in good form of late, including a recent 3rd place finish in a N2L claimer behind repeat winner Indian Counselor.

RACE 5: 9-2-1

#9 DIGITAL SOFTWARE returns from a lengthy layoff, and faces a drastically weaker field than he has in 3 prior starts.  Look for him to be in an ideal spot early stalking the pace ready to pounce.

RACE 6: 5-9-10-12

An aggressive ride could be all #5 CANARSIE ANGEL needs in this spot.  She is the one to catch on paper, and there is precious little speed signed up.  She exits a tough NY Bred allowance event and classes up favorably in this field.

RACE 7: 9-8-3-1

#9 PALS SARATOGA GAL is a second time starter who made a wide middle move on debut at Aqueduct.  The track was kind to inside speed that afternoon, so you can upgrade this filly’s performance.  She will also be a square price in a race where the favorites are difficult to trust.

RACE 8: 7-4-6-1/1A

With a bit more pace, and a move to Belmont, #7 BIG PACKAGE should get the money today.  He was bet down to 7/5 in his last start and came up wanting late, as he got no real pace setup that day.  This is a much better looking spot for a late runner.

RACE 9: 1-5-10-6

#1 CATCH THAT PARTY returns to NY after wintering in Houston and is back on turf.  He has the speed to protect the inside and ran a race on debut that would make him a major contender in that spot.  That particular race proved key as well, with 3 next out winners.

BELMONT STATS: 131-36-22-16   $215.90
