Nick Tammaro’s Belmont Analysis – Thursday, May 20

BELMONT – 5/20/2021

RACE 1: 3-4-2

#3 MISS ALACRITY is by 14% debut sire Munnings and is out of a multiple graded stake-winning dam.  She has dropped 3 winners from as many to race and trainer Wesley Ward is the best early season 2YO trainer in the world.

RACE 2: 4-8-7

#4 HERE COMES JACKIE is back in NY after a winter at Tampa Bay Downs where she was competitive against open company.  The highlight of her stay in the Sunshine State was a March 10 victory and the rider with whom she has had success in NY is back aboard today.

RACE 3: 8-5-4

#8 CAPTIVATING CARA is the one to catch on paper and gets a massive upgrade at pilot.  The last time Luis Cardenas was aboard this daughter of Micromanage, she made the lead and battled gamely despite racing against the grain of the racetrack.  Look for her to be ridden aggressively in here.

RACE 4: 1-4-7

#1 ANNA’S FAST is the one to catch from a cozy inside post for Wesley Ward and John Velazquez.  She is quick enough to get control and comes in off a decent effort against much better.  The pace she contested at Keeneland last month was very swift and she stands to get a better trip this afternoon.

RACE 5: 6-3-4

#6 FAST BREAK is now in for a tag for Brittany Russell after narrowly missing last time out against N1X foes at Pimlico.  He has an ideal outside post and can stalk the pace for this high percentage outfit.  Russell is a solid 13% in NY over the last five years, good for a $3.54 ROI.

RACE 6: 8-1-7

#8 NEWSWORTHY cuts back in distance and can likely stalk and pounce today for trainer Bill Mott.  This son of Tapit got involved in a very hot pace last time out and understandably tired late, so the cutback should really help his chances.  Mott is 16% over the last 5 years with turfers cutting back from routes to sprints ($2.56 ROI).

RACE 7: 2-4-5

Much like Stage Raider here a week ago or so, #2 ALWAYS CARINA is the proverbial “free square” in the multi-race plays.  This well-bred daughter of the late Malibu Moon was tremendously impressive in a debut win and will have to prove here that it didn’t have to do with the sloppy surface.

RACE 8: 7-6-3

#7 BIG ENGINE has made just one prior start on turf, and it came for the now indicted Jason Servis.  He showed good speed before fading late and has since become a more mature and polished racehorse.  There’s more than enough pace to enable him to sit just off it to pounce when ready.

RACE 9: 5-6-10-8

#5 COALITION BUILDING handled the added distance last time out without issue and will look to improve second off a short layoff.  He moved prematurely last time out to reach command at the quarter pole before getting collared late.  There’s enough confirmed pace in here for him to sit and make one run.

BELMONT STATS: 140-39-24-17               $229.80
