Nick Tammaro’s Belmont Analysis – Thursday, May 6

BELMONT – 5/6/2021

RACE 1: 7-6-2

#7 UP SEVENTYFOUR towers over her rivals as she exits an effort at this level that would make her very tough to beat if duplicated.  She’s the main speed on paper and starts for high percentage connections to boot.

RACE 2: 3-2-6

It might finally be graduation day for #3 BACK CHANNEL, who has danced a number of dances and has never missed the trifecta.  She has good tactical speed and can be within range from the start for new trainer Rudy Rodriguez.

RACE 3: 5-6-2-1

#5 TOO EARLY has consistently run the fastest races of any horse in this field, and was likely disadvantaged by making an inside move on the sloppy surface last time out.  He can be more of a pace player in this largely paceless affair and should be a square price as well.

RACE 4: 5-7-8

The Pick 6 starts off with an eye crossing maiden seller where #5 MIA CALIA may end up being the right horse.  She ran an improved race last time out at a mile and should be moving well late on the cutback in distance for low percentage connections.  The favorites in here inspire no confidence whatsoever and an aggressive ride would help her cause.

RACE 5: 6-3-1

With the scratches of two speed horses in this compact field, the job for #6 DANGEROUS EDGE has gotten tougher. He is a late runner who needs things to heat up on the front end, but he has plenty of talent and is in good form.

RACE 6: 2-9-10-3

In what is unquestionably the toughest leg of the Pick 6, #2 SUMMER SILENCE looms an interesting prospect.  He has only tried turf once before and never really had a fair shot rated off a glacial pace that afternoon.  He can be the inside speed and pace at 11 panels is always a good thing.

RACE 7: 8-4-1

#8 AWESOME ALANA is a cheap claimer in improving form who’s getting an upgrade at pilot and has an ideal outside post.  You have to use #4 BABY BOSS, but this daughter of Violence is the interesting contender at a price.

RACE 8: 8-4-7

#8 VIOLENT POINT was beaten to the punch by the rival to her outside last time out and wound up rating.  She did not do so effectively and needs to get the lead this afternoon under Irad Ortiz, Jr.  She was wrapped up late in that spot so hopefully nothing was amiss and she can strut her stuff today.

RACE 9: 4-7-1

#4 ZERENIA is the one to beat as she seeks her second straight victory for John Terranova.  She was a game winner last time out from just off the pace and should be in a similar spot here.  This N2L is particularly weak and is crying out for a new face.
