BELMONT PARK LATE PICK 5 – 5/6/2023

RACE 7: 3-1-6-8

#3 SUBROGATE is a second timer who ran a bang-up race on debut for trainer Jorge Duarte, Jr. and now returns for his second start shortening up in distance.  He is bred to improve with time and should be a major player in crunch time today.

RACE 8: 6-1-5-8

#6 HEAVEN STREET hails from the barn that won Saturday’s Kentucky Oaks in an upset.  This colt was ineffective last time out at Gulfstream but likely needed a race and is better suited to a one-turn event.  He’s training well and will be a big price for good connections.

RACE 9: 4-5-3-6

#4 FORT WASHINGTON had all kinds of trouble last time out when 3rd in the Appleton at Gulfstream Park.  He’s now back in NY and will appreciate the return to a 9 furlong trip.  As long as just a little pace materializes in front of him, he’s a major late threat.

RACE 10: 4-5-3-6

A year ago Chad Brown won this race with a horse that was just a bit better at Belmont and that might be the case again with #6 GERRYMANDER.  She is 4-4 in the exacta at Belmont and has been pretty much terrible everywhere else.  Banking on that happening again.

RACE 11: 10-11-4-2

#10 JOINT RESOLUTION is likely a bit too good for them here coming back off a layoff.  His only turf start of 2022 was good enough to win this comfortably and he’ll be a deserved short price.
