Nick Tammaro’s Belmont Selections and Analysis – Thursday, June 15, 2023

BELMONT PARK – 6/15/23

RACE 1: 5-1A-7-6

#5 NICKY JOLENE has the most turf pedigree in this field being out of a dam who was a winner on turf and kin to a couple of grass winners.  This filly will be the right price to take in a race that offers more questions than clues.

RACE 2: 6-3-4-1

#6 MIDNIGHT STROLL is dropping significantly in class for trainer John Terranova being in for a tag after facing stakes company in 6 straight starts.  She is drawn favorably on the outside and should improve 2nd off a short layoff.

RACE 3: 5-2-7-8

#5 MAMA BANNED ME is spotted conservatively off a maiden win last time out for Tom Morley.  He lengthened his stride nicely to run down a couple of weak turf routers to get the job done last time out and should be rallying well late again today.  The price will be attractive to boot.

RACE 4: 7-2-8-1

#7 LOST IN ROME is improving of late speed figure-wise and drops in class today.  There should be a respectable pace in here given the two inside drawn runners and this gelding will get a strong setup with a more skilled ‘Davis in the irons today.

RACE 5: 8-7-2-11

There’s serious second family turf pedigree with #8 MOMENT OF INSIGHT.  He is by Mendelssohn, a 14% turf debut sire and the 2nd dam was a stakes winner on turf who produced two turf stakes winners.  This barn is among the best around with first timers on turf.

RACE 6: 3-6-1-8

#3 TOSCONOVA BEAUTY is the one to catch today coming back to the NYRA circuit from Finger Lakes. She is capable of producing the same speed figures at NYRA tracks as she has at Finger Lakes and that has to calm your fears.  There’s only one objective here – get to the front early.

RACE 7: 8-2-9-7

#8 OUTLAW KID got good quickly on turf last year for trainer George Weaver and should be a tough customer today back on the lawn.  This is a good barn when it comes to fresh horses, so there are plenty of reasons to believe he’ll be a major threat here.

RACE 8: 1-3-2-6

#1 TONAL IMPACT is razor sharp for Linda Rice and should be in an ideal position just off the pace this afternoon. He ran a speed figure last time out that would make him impossible to beat if duplicated, and his tactical speed is a major weapon.

RACE 9: 5-8-1-4

#5 RED BUTTERFLY has clearly faced better in two prior turf tries and should be in a good spot early based on the speed she previously showed.  This filly gets Lasix today for a dangerous barn and should be an attractive price as well.
