LEG A, GULFSTREAM RACE 9
The first leg was scratched down to 4 horses, though the two principles are still in the field. #1 SOUPER TUSCAN and #5 PURSUITNEVERSLEEPS look to be the best in the bunch and would be As for me on the ticket. The other two runners are hardly impossible, but the strong worktab on ‘Tuscan and the good form and barn change on ‘Pursuit point to them being the right two.
LEG B, GULFSTREAM RACE 10
A wide-open event ends the card and #6 VIA VENETO is likely to get a better trip this time around than she did last time. She was steadied sharply on the first turn and found herself one-paced late. This is a chance to get over the hump. I like #7 ICONA as well for Brendan Walsh based on his success with these types and the recent worktab.#10 TOO MANY MIKES is a firster with some pedigree and a good looking worktab as well. The decision you have to make is what to do with #1 JUST SO PRETTY, who has squandered so many winning opportunities previously.
LEG C, SANTA ANITA RACE 5
The scratch of the 3 makes #1 PURA VIDA PRINCESA a very likely winner and one who players on a budget may lean on to get through the leg. I could use #7 THATSALRIGHTMAMA who had nothing go right in her last turf start but showed some life in her debut at Kentucky Downs.
LEG D, SANTA ANITA RACE 6
#8 PLAY FOR ME is dangerous as a first timer in a bad field here. I think both #1 SMILING RAPPER and #2 TOM’S STAR are dangerous based on their respective profiles. The latter was involved in a hot pace last time out before tiring while ‘Rapper tried to rally into a slow pace last time out at Del Mar. #4 SUBTLE KNOWLEDGE figures to get better now that she has a race under her belt for Jeff Mullins.
LEG E, SANTA ANITA RACE 8
The Baffle is the anchor leg of the sequence and #7 LATER THAN PLANNED figures to be dangerous late coming off the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. He drew into that race from the AE list and made a nice late move but the 5 furlong trip was never going to be enough for him. The downhill trip should help his cause. #3 HEY NAY NAY shortens up off a dull effort in the Cecil Demille but is probably better going shorter. #2 GREENWICH VILLAGE is dangerous but lacks turf pedigree. It would be speed that would prompt you to use him.
