SARATOGA – 8/1/21

RACE 1: 4-2-1A-11

#4 CAMOUFLAGED KISSER gets a significant upgrade at pilot today and has been in dire need of a decisive ride.  He has been close to strong paces in recent starts and has understandably faded late, so either being sent to the lead or being taken back to make one run will help his cause.

RACE 2: 5-4-1-7

The workout reports indicate that #5 SILVERY RILL is the more fancied of the two Christophe Clement trainees.  She has looked better in the morning and sports a strong pedigree for turf success.  Her dam, Stays in Vegas, was a Grade I caliber turfer in her day and this barn excels with 2YO first time starters.

RACE 3: 2-1-6

#2 FULL COURT PRESS was ambitiously spotted off a claim by Tom Morley and now looks to be in the right spot class-wise.  He rallied last time out against tougher to snag the show dough and now drops in class again.  Look for him to be a bit more forwardly placed under Tyler Gaffalione, who is quietly having a terrific meet.

RACE 4: 9-4-10-5

#9 JILL’S A HOT MESS changes barns to that of Linda Rice and is the one to catch in this affair.  She set a robust pace before tiring last time out and this trip is far more conducive to a frontrunning type.  The improvement this filly has shown since moving to turf is notable.

RACE 5: 2-3-1-6

#2 WOO HOO THAT’S ME is training well for Jorge Abreu and has win early pedigree.  This colt posted a bullet back on July 6 and Abreu picked up his first win of the meet here on Saturday afternoon.  The 2nd dam was a graded stakes placed sprinter so there’s reason to believe this one will have some ability.

RACE 6: 5-1-7-2

#5 MISS TEHERAN gets Irad Ortiz, Jr. back aboard and the only time they’ve partnered led to a victory back in February of this year.  She was narrowly beaten in each of her last two and obviously has some trouble with finishing the job.  If she gets more pace to run at late then she can get over the hump in here.

RACE 7: 3-6-5-7

#3 TOWN CLASSIC first off a claim by Mike Maker, who has a whopping 7 wins at Saratoga this week.  This gelding was an impressive winner last time out against lesser and is a good fit here given his ample early speed.  If he simply runs his last race he will be very tough to beat.

RACE 8: 9-2-6-10

The trip endured by #9 PRINCESS PINKY last time out was enough to give her another look in her 2nd turf try.  She was out of the gate very poorly and advanced on her own to reach contention before coming up just short.  This is a tougher field from top to bottom than the one she faced last time out, but there’s obviously upside.

RACE 9: 3-6-2

The tables are set to be turned by #3 JACKIE’S WARRIOR, who was bested by #2 DRAIN THE CLOCK last time out in the Woody Stephens.  The former was out of the gate poorly and lost precious position before reengaging down the backstretch.  The move to 6.5 furlongs figures to do him some good.

RACE 10: 14-11-1-5

#14 ESCAPOLOGY is a second timer who showed little on debut going long on turf.  Trainer Jimmy Bond, who annually targets Saratoga, is switching surfaces with this filly and adding blinkers.  She lures Joel Rosario and is reportedly training well, so there’s plenty to like.

SARATOGA 2021 STATS: 69-18-11-11  $138.70
