SARATOGA – 8/11/2023

RACE 1: 4-3-1-5

#4 MOORE’S LAW is a late running son of Good Magic who goes 2nd off a layoff for trainer Chad Brown.  He rallied nicely last time out into a very slow pace and should be set for improvement second off a layoff.  With a step forward he should prove very tough to handle.

RACE 2: 4-5-7-2

#4 TOSCONOVA BEAUTY is a gate-to-wire threat off a poor effort where she broke slowly last time out at Belmont Park.  When on her game, this daughter of Boys at Toscanova is very fast early and that’s why she needs to get out of the gate in one piece.  The gamble will be worthwhile though given how likely she is to be dismissed off a bad recent running line.

RACE 3: 6-3-5-2

As reluctant as I am to take #6 CANISY under any circumstances, she is loose as can be in this field from a pace perspective.  There’s zero other speed signed on and she has been at her best when on the lead.  Javier Castellano has been aboard for all 3 wins and is back today.

RACE 4: 2-5-6

#2 GRANNYS CONNECTION looks like an absolute cinch in her third start off a layoff for Tom Morley.  She narrowly missed in the Dancin Renee last time out and should be well clear today given the lack of speed in this field.  If able to get loose, she’ll be very tough to handle and should get some revenge on #5 KANT HURRY LOVE.

RACE 5: 6-4-3-2

#6 BREEZE EASY was in traffic last time out and that kept her from a better finish.  She is a late player here and should get more pace to run at if Lady Milagro gets out of the gate in one piece.  This late runner has been in good form for quite some time now and will be typically well backed at the windows.

RACE 6: 4-6-1A-7

#4 TODAY’S FLAVOR is the main speed on a serious class drop for George Weaver.  He has been very good when on his game, and getting Lasix back on the class drop is sure to help his chances.  Though there’s other speed signed on in here, the gamble is that this son of Laoban is a bit faster and he’ll be tough to take down if loose early.

RACE 7: 10-3-6-2

#10 VETTRIANO is a firster by Liam’s Map, whose progeny hit at a 7% clip on debut.  The unraced dam here has dropped 2 winners from as many to race and this colt is apparently training very strongly for his debut.  The outside post is ideal as well given the bulky nature of this field.

RACE 8: 3-2-1-8

No reason to abandon ship from #3 BEHIND ENEMY LINES in the delayed running of the Hall of Fame.  He was a good price a week ago when entered here and now comes back off a brief layoff with another impressive workout for Jack Sisterson.  He draws favorably inside and will be in position to pounce late.

RACE 9: 1-8-4-7

#1 AMERICANREVOLUTION is a much better horse than what he meets today, even off a lengthy layoff.  He was last seen finishing a good second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and comes in unbeaten against NY breds in his injury-filled career.  He draws a tricky inside post but seems to have developed enough tactical speed to be a factor throughout.

RACE 10: 4-12-5-6

#4 DIAMOND COLLECTOR is likely in the right spot off a layoff dropping in class having last been seen against tougher at Aqueduct.  She’ll meet a soft bunch off the turf today and has the versatility to be positioned anywhere early.  Scratches are sure to decimate this field and leave few runners.

RACE 11: 3-8-10-6

#3 GHOSTLY GIRL switches surfaces and has enough dirt form to get the nod here for Kenny McPeek.  She’ll undoubtedly face a soft field that includes a likely short price in #10 YOGI whose trainer is on a 99-race losing streak.
