SARATOGA – 8/30/2023

RACE 1: No Picks

Steeplechase Race

RACE 2: 7-1A-4-6

#7 WASKESIU trained forwardly prior to her debut and wound up finishing fourth after racing along the rail.  She should improve with experience and now draws a cozy outside post position for Bill Mott.  Her last dirt drill was once again highly rated by the clockers, so she should be ready to roll today.

RACE 3: 14-13-1A-10

#14 CALL HER BLUFF is a second time starter who showed some life on debut and is likely to land in a soft, scratch-laden field with this coming off the turf.  She has trained well since her debut and should improve with experience and the price will be fair when all is said and done.

RACE 4: 7-6-4-3

The last effort from #7 HUNTRESS FOR HIRE is better than it looks on paper as she set a contested pace on a dead inside path.  Trainer Al Stall, Jr. had a good run at Saratoga in 2022 and should have her ready to fire here 2nd off the layoff.  Jockey Jose Ortiz is back aboard and he piloted her to a big Kentucky Oaks day win.

RACE 5: 13-15-12-16

#13 GILMORE is clearly the one to beat on the switch to dirt given his recent form and his past races at top levels.  He is a late running type who’ll need a bit of help on the front end and there should be some pace in here.  The price here will dip well below even money given the high percentage connections and class edge.

RACE 6: 2-4-1-3

#2 AIR SHOW is interesting as a price player here given the way he fought while chasing outside last time out.  The main track on Alabama day was tilted towards inside speed and this guy went wide the entire way en route to a 5thplace finish.  He’s back in light with the bug boy aboard and should be in an ideal stalking position this afternoon.

RACE 7: 10-16-3-15

#10 SHE’S MO BUBBLY was a good second last time out in a race taken off the turf.  She chased the eventual wire-to-wire winner from the outset and came up just short going 10 panels. The distance today will do her no harm and the likelihood of a wet track is encouraging as well.

RACE 8: 4-6-8-2

#4 SIGNAL FROM NOISE is an interesting runner here off a poor effort last time out as a heavy favorite.  She was stuck inside much of the way, including through the stretch while trying to chase down a wire-to-wire winner.  The shorter trip today is much more to her liking and the chances are strong that the pace materializes this afternoon.

RACE 9: 8-10-1-11

#8 SHE FEELS PRETTY is a daughter of Karakontie with some pedigree on the dam side for dirt.  If this race stays on the turf, she is a major threat given the potent closing kick shown in her unveiling at Ellis Park.  She is likely to take to more ground with alacrity and her dirt works have been good enough to make her a contender on the main track.

RACE 10: 6-2-5-4

#15 I’M JUST is the one to beat off the turf given her prior dirt efforts for the red-hot barn of Christopeh Clement.  This barn has heated up as the meet has gone on and picked up a couple of stakes wins here on Sunday.  The prior runs have all come against better and she is likely to be a heavy favorite here on the main track.
