LEG A, RACE 8 – GULFSTREAM PARK
SELECTIONS: 6-1-2-3
There’s a good argument to be made that #6 GOLD SOVEREIGN is a likely winner in here coming back off a break for Chad Brown. He moves to synthetics and this barn really only puts its lesser stock on this surface. The distance is the “x factor” as he goes the mile and three sixteenths today and there should be enough pace to set up his late run. If he improves even the slightest bit off his last few, he’ll be hard to deny late.
LEG B, RACE 9 – GULFSTREAM PARK
SELECTIONS: 5-3-6-4
The positive workout report on #5 BAD GAL PARTY makes her interesting off a barn switch here. She’s now in the care of David Fawkes and looks to be going well in the mornings of late. Her best races prior have come on this surface and she has the ability to stalk the pace and pounce late. That is a weapon today given there is not a great deal of front end speed in this field. She will be a square price based on the morning line of 8-1. Both #3 CHOSEN FACTOR and #6 PHOEBEINWONDERLAND are dangerous based on class angles today. The former is going 2nd off a claim and faced a tougher bunch last time out. She’s been good on this surface and should be moving well late. ‘Phoebe is a rare late runner from the barn of Wesley Ward who should appreciate the class relief off her last outing in NY.
LEG C, RACE 10 – GULFSTREAM PARK
SELECTIONS: 11-6-7-4
There’s virtually no chance that #11 SILICIUM goes off 8-1 when all is said and done. She made her North American debut in a stakes race at Aqueduct and received plenty of support in going off 8-1. She lost all chance at the start of that affair and just went through the motions under today’s pilot. This is a major drop class-wise and she gets Lasix for the first time for trainer Will Walden. He had an impressive winner here over the weekend and continues to turn heads as a young trainer. #6 COVERED IN CRYSTAL is a major player adding blinkers and Lasix for trainer Mike Trombetta. This gal faced much better in her last start and figures to move forward today facing softer.
LEG D, RACE 9 – SANTA ANITA PARK
SELECTIONS: 5-9-2-4
#5 SIX MAGPIES and #9 EMPIRE’S CLASSIC are the two I want to use here and try to beat #2 TRIBAL. ‘Magpies is a late runner who ran well in is debut for Steve Sherman, surging to finish 2nd at 7-1. That was at this class level and came with a wide run around the far turn. She’s now back fresh and should be a strong late player in the closing stages of this event. Empire’s Classic is dropping in class 2nd off a maiden win and should be a threat in the stretch as well. The pace will have to heat up to help her cause, but we’ll get rewarded price-wise.
LEG E, RACE 10 – SANTA ANITA PARK
SELECTIONS: 4-5-6-3
This is a three-deep event as #4 SCARY FAST RIDE, #5 NAFISA, and #6 LOLO LE PLUME should cover things. Scary Fast Ride is the one I’m not interested in from a betting perspective as she’ll be the longest price. Her move to a mile last time out went well as she battled start to finish before finishing a good fourth beaten less than a length. This is her favorite surface as well, as she has never missed the trifecta in 6 prior tries over the Santa Anita oval. Nafisa is the one to catch off a maiden win where she battled start to finish for Bob Baffert. This filly always showed potential and just may be realizing it now 13 races into her career.
LEG F, RACE 11 – SANTA ANITA PARK
SELECTIONS: 11-9-1-5
With a little scratch help, #11 SHIN JADAI can get in and be dangerous in this affair. She is a better sprinter and figures to benefit from the class relief she gets this afternoon. Her sprint races have been very strong and her most recent go of it at a mile at Del Mar was very good. Trainer Leonard Powell is overdue for a win at this meet and this gal should be a strong late player. #9 SHANGRILAMA likely wins last time if the race is any longer and now goes first off a claim by Mark Glatt. That should help her move up a tad and there is a virtual guarantee of pace in here thanks to #1 CYPRUS MOON drawing the rail.
