On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Friday(January 06, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   2  –  10  –  11

#2 Defender Gal has never run on turf but has shown speed early in all her prior starts, gets Lasix for the first time for solid connections.  #10 Replenish ran a solid race on debut on the turf at Kentucky Downs back in September.  Although her second race she was never a factor, today she returns to the turf and hopefully returns to form.  #11 Hot Mission has good turf pedigree and is making her debut for trainer Ronald Spatz; Miguel Vasquez in the irons.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   1  –  4  –  5

#1 Classic Car Wash won by eight lengths last time out on the dirt earning a very good speed figure.  If he takes to the surface and has a similar performance everyone else is running for place money.  #4 Anamnestic continues to improve after every start and today returns to the All-Weather after trying the turf last time out.  # 5 Captain Anthony will be closing late and should have a pace to close into, gets Jose Ortiz in the saddle.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   7   –  8

#7 Yooou Know is making her second lifetime start for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.  On debut, she ran as if she stole something for the first three-quarters of the race, before conceding 2nd to a horse that went on to win by seventeen lengths.  – I had to watch the replay to ensure it wasn’t a misprint.  #8 Sugar Sin is a first time starter for trainer Efren Loza Jr., who’s barn is off to a very good start; this daughter of Danzing Candy will be ridden by Paco Lopez.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:    4  –  1

#4 Frosted Oats is returning to the races after a six month rest.  Last time out she broke her maiden up at Belmont with a solid performance at a similar distance, earning a speed figure that makes her one of the favorites in this spot.  #1 Fish Mooney is in good form for trainer Mark Casse.  This will be her second race since making the trip down from Woodbine, her last race was moved off the turf and she finished up well.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:    10  –  1

#10 Red Gun has earned the same speed figure twice in both starts, not losing by much; gets Lasix for the first time today.  #1 Kekere has run fast in the beginning of all his prior starts, the stretch run has been more difficult.  This gelding also gets Lasix for the first time and that could make the difference, let’s see.

Let’s make it happen!!!
