On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Saturday(January 07, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   2   – 7

#2 Major Dude is making his return to the races after competing in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf last November at Keenland.  Although he finished ninth, he was in contention; from that performance he will be heavily bet.   #7 Worthington deserves serious consideration as he continues to improve after every start.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   10  – 11  –  7

#10 Cadet Corps will be doing his best running late and if he gets an honest pace to run at should be a serious contender.  #11 Momza should also benefit from a short lived opening quick early pace.  This gelding is always close and today top jockey Irad Ortiz will be in the irons.   #7 Fly the W will be overvalued but is just too good to be ignored.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   3  –  6

#3 Cairo Consort has so much early speed it will be tough for anyone else to contend without over extending.  We don’t have much intel from the program on the #6 Anna Karenine but we do know that she is well-bred and trained by the turf wizard Chad Brown, say less.

Race 10 SELECTIONS:    4  –  7

#4 Tartufo should be the benefactor of a highly contested opening pace.  He is running second off the layoff for trainer Carlo Vaccarezza; can’t do much better than jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. in the saddle.   #7 Picking Up Pennies is owned and trained by Saffie Joseph Jr.  This gelding has lots of speed and can sustain it if he is not headed. Depending on the race tactics employed to preserve others he may be able to hold on and re-rally in the stretch.

Race 11 SELECTIONS:   7  –  5  –  12

#7 One Fast Dream is a first time starter for trainer Mark Casse. A well-bred son of Always Dreaming has been showing good speed in his workouts.  #5 Blame D Rule Maker will be making his fifth career start for trainer Jorge Duarte Jr.  He is now a gelding and is attempting turf for the first time, there has been a solid workout pattern during his three month rest.  #12 Jamestown is from a strong blood line of turf runners.  He ran just okay in his debut last time out, gets Lasix and jockey Jose Ortiz.

Let’s make it happen!!!
