Late Pick 5 sequence:
Race 5 SELECTIONS: 3 – 7
#3 Spy Novel steps up in class after winning impressively last time out. He was claimed and now runs for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.; has good early speed and seems to prefer the grass. #7 Canal has never run on the grass but possesses a good pressing running style and has good turf pedigree on his dam’s side; trainer Michael Maker and jockey Tyler Gaffalione are the connections for this improving colt.
Race 6 SELECTIONS: 6 – 8
#6 Jolly Miss Jill attend an honest early pace last time out and was unable to get to the leader in her last race. She finished on her wrong lead, maybe tiring, she was returning from two months layoff. #8 Clay Soldier will get Lasix for the first time after losing by only a head last time out at this same level and distance; also gets a rider change to Tyler Gaffalione.
Race 7 SELECTIONS: 4 – 6
#4 Journeytothemoon has been a specialist at this level and distance at Gulfstream Park since June of last year when current trainer Ronald Spatz took over the job. She and our other race selection have been one – two in all of those races. #6 Jazzy T around this level this mare did not finish worse than a second place finish in six consecutive outings last year. Today she is returning to the races after a two months rest for trainer Bobby Dibona hoping to pick up where she left off.
Race 8 SELECTIONS: 5 – 6 – 8
#5 Diamond Cool drops in class for trainer Patrick Biancone and will face state bred company. He has run the 7Furlong distance in his last two attempts and has been a viable win candidate in them both. #6 Bring Theband Home has not been seen at the races since last summer at Saratoga, where he showed good early speed and his competitive nature; the workout tab looks impressive as he looks to be rounding back into shape. #8 Rudder’s Men is a home bred for St. Elas Stables who is trained by Todd Pletcher; This colt has very good early speed but he has yet to sustain it effectively. Drops into the state bred allowance ranks and should have a say in the outcome.
Race 9 SELECTIONS: 5 – 7
#5 Connecting Flight displayed both natural ability and her inexperience last time out on debut. She ran a mile on the turf and was in contention throughout until late when she was wide and was drifting, keeps the services of jockey Javier Castellano. #7 Both Sides showed good interest late in her debut going 5.5Furlongs on the All-Weather. Trainer Cherie DeVaux has positive stats with runners who are attempting the turf for the first time.
Let’s make it happen!!!
