On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Thursday(January 05, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   4  – 5  –  1

#4 Feline is a logical choice but has struggled with second-itis throughout her career.  Against the right group she is bound to break her maiden, let’s see what happens today.  #5 Lita has only raced once prior to today’s entry.  On debut she showed good early speed then retreated, room for improvement with good connections.  #1 Stake a Claim has improved her speed and level of competition since moving over to the All-Weather surface back in November, another move forward makes her a contender.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   7  –  5

#7 He’s in Charge runs second off the layoff for new trainer Samantha Dobles.  Has shown strong speed going longer; if he takes to the surface, he should have a say in the outcome.  # 5 Charmed will attempt the dirt once again after a less than stellar outing last time on the surface at Finger Lakes.  After a 3 month break this gelding returns and gets Irad in the saddle.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   4  –  5

#4 Bravo Kitten has the pedigree and running style to make her a strong morning line favorite.  Drops in class for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., Tyler Gaffalione get’s the mount.  #5 In a Spin is stepping up in class and has slower speed figures than the main projected favorites, but what I like about her in this spot is the stretch out to 12F along with her willingness to close.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:    1  –  4

#1 Collaborate is dropping in class for top connections and has the speed and ability to set just off the pace and finish strong.  #4 American Prince has many of the very same factors at play, dropping in class for top connections and possesses versatile speed.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   4   –  9

#4 American Diamond has not raced for more than eleven months, but statistically that’s the only category he is not the top in, if he is ready off the layoff, he contends; recent workout indicates that he is.  #9 Garmento is a lightly raced Empire Maker colt that returns to the races after a two month rest, will need to improve but should.
