On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Thursday(January 26, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS:

#2 Caminero drops in class today for trainer Fausto Gutierrez.  This four-year-old colt has good early speed and if he is not challenged he could take them gate to wire.  #9 Appraisal story is almost the exact opposite.  This gelded son of Painter is stepping up in class and will be looking to come from off the pace.  Running first time out for new trainer Victor Barboza and cutting back in distance; Jose Ortiz will be in the saddle.

Race 6 SELECTION:   6

#6 Battle Cry is a deserving favorite in this race.  She has good versatile speed and she has won her last three starts.  Second off the layoff for trainer Victor Barboza and keeps the services of Luis Saez.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   9- 7- 3

#9 White Frost has been away from the races for over a year but based on her body of work before the layoff, she has the ability to compete and win at this level – IF she is ready; trainer Bill Mott gives her Lasix for the first time.  #3 Paris Peacock will make her first start for new trainer Thomas Proctor and will get Lasix for the first time; this will be her second start in the U.S.  Her first start on these shores she competed in the Grade 1 EQII at Keenland and led for half the race before weakening.  #7 Miss Delicious is a hard-trying mare that has won her last two starts.  Moves up in class slightly but her speed figures and the race shape fits her running style; jockey Javier Castellano is always dangerous on the turf.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   3  – 7

#3 Hoax is a speedy three-year-old Practical Joke filly that is trained by Todd Pletcher.  Her aptitude for being up on the early pace makes her a must use.  #7 Clay Soldier should also be right there in the mix early on in this 5F Sprint.  She faced a tough group last time out but was only beaten by less than two lengths.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   5  – 9  – 10

#5 Naa Dudette has get hit the board in her last two attempts but we know that almost doesn’t count.  The addition of Lasix factored in with the filly running second off the claim for Robert N. Falcone may help the scenario.  #9 Evie Does It has never raced on grass but does have some turf breeding on the Dam side; prior to the race last time out she has been very competitive and her pace figures are on par.  #10 R Rose’ All Day has only run once on the turf but coincidently it was her best speed figure, she also gets Lasix for the first time.

Let’s make it happen!!!
