Parx Racing 3/23/21
I only will be doing the early Pick 4 here today, but will be back to normal tomorrow with a full card analysis.
Race 1- 7F CLM5000N1Y
Picks- 3-6-2
#3 Pharaoh’s City gets Angel Castillo back and is back in the Ronald Abrams barn. Abrams had him running well at the beginning of last year and now he returns to their barn and Angel Castillo keeps the mount. I think 9/2 would be a gift on him and I would recommend playing him at those odds.
#6 Baduke is leaving tougher races and dropping to the bottom condition today. Juan Vasquez is trying to win with this horse and has realized that this horse can’t compete against open company in New York or at Parx. I think the 2nd race off the layoff and the fact that he is dropping into this level and returning to his preferred distance are all positives.
#2 Capt. Grider was really solid in the summer of 2019 and then went on the shelf. He returned back in January and was facing open 16K company and restricted company the following race for 8K, but both at Penn National. Both races were pretty bad and he showed little. However, this field is small and weaker than both of those races. I think Mychel Sanchez returning to ride him as he once did when she was beating Allowance company in 2019. Maybe the jockey switch and drop in class will be all he needs.
Race 2- 6F CLM5000N2Y
Picks- 9-4-3
#9 Early Entry is in for the red hot Jamie Ness barn. Ruben Silvera gets the call today which is always a positive sign. I think Ruben will have him close to the lead today if not on the lead and I think if he gets the right trip he will romp here.
#4 Thomas Knight is another horse who is running out of a red hot barn. Joe Taylor has had Thomas Knight for years and this horse is still competing at an old age. He drops out of open company and back down to restricted company and is looking for a win. I think Nunez can give him a good trip pressing the leaders and make one run today.
#3 Bolita Boyz was claimed last time out for John Kirby who has been winning a good amount lately and personally I like this claim. Kirby goes to Laprida first time off the claim and returns to the same level he claimed the horse for. I think the upgrade in jockey and 6/1 ML here are both too good to pass up.
Race 3- 7F CLM7500N4L
Picks- 1-4-5
#1 Audience of One has been having troubled trip after troubled trip recently and I think if he can get a clean trip he can return to that form he had to end the year and start of 2021. He might prefer two turns but I think this field isn’t as good as the previous and I think if he can be on the lead he will win.
#4 Jump Shot is another horse who needs the lead or needs to be close to it in order to win and I think today he can get that. He was too far outside last time out and never was a factor. This field is smaller today and I think he can produce a better effort being drawn mid pack.
#5 Otis Otis Otis was claimed last time out for Carl Jones but claimed off of Joe Taylor which is usually a negative. I think he will be the leader early and Dexter Haddock will need to get him comfortable on that lead. This horse is capable of producing a big effort and today could be that day.
Race 4- 7F MCL 20K
PIcks- 7-9-2
#7 Tilsa just missed last time out against similar going 6F. She always seems to be right in the mix and just never can finish the job. Mychel doesn’t ride much for Abrams so the fact he returned to ride her in a MCL20K again means something to me. I think this horse is in the best form and if she can get her mind in winning form I think she can beat this field.
#9 Clever Start showed tons of speed in debut for 30k and drops to 20k and hopes to keep to task today against weaker. Edwin Rivera picks up the call today as this horse should benefit from an aggressive jockey in Edwin Rivera. Mychel Sanchez decided to ride the #7 over this one which is a negative sign but I think she can go gate to wire today.
#2 Crick has been facing way tougher up in NY. She leaves the Rudy Rodriguez barn and joins the Juan Carlos Guerrero barn today. I think she will benefit from moving to Parx and the deeper surface. Adorno gets the call today which I like and I think she will be closer to the lead today and ready to make one run at the leaders.
