Parx Racing 3/10/21
Race 1- 7F CLM 16000N2L
Picks- 2-1-6
#2 Champers is in 2nd off the claim for Jamie Ness. The horse improved since joining the Ness barn and I think he can improve again today. He will be pressing the speed today and should be able to go by mid stretch. I think this is the horse to beat in here.
#1 Spaceman was in my top 3 last time out a few weeks ago but was scratched. Today he is entered again and hopefully will run. I think the 2nd race off the layoff and also a drop in class is good today. I think he might even be involved more early on this time and should be closer than usual.
#6 Green Growth should improve a ton for Mike Pino off the claim. Pino is 22% off the claim and not only that, is bumping this horse up in class off the claim. Mychel Sanchez gets the call as well which is a positive sign that Pino has this horse ready to go. Should be close to the lead if not on it as well.
Race 2- 5 ½ F MCL20K
Picks- 3-6-4
#3 Clever Start showed tons of speed in debut for 30k and drops to 20k and hopes to keep to task today against weaker. Mychel Sanchez keeps the mount and hopefully she gets a better trip.
#6 Tudox Rue Majestic hasn’t done much in her young and lightly raced career. However, this is her first start as a 4yo and has had a long layoff. They are dropping her from 40k to 20k and putting Jomar Torres aboard which could be beneficial as he is more aggressive than the other jockeys before on this filly.
#4 Brooklyn Heights has been facing tougher her whole career. Usually Uriah St. Lewis keeps horses above their class for some reasons I do not have the answer to. However, when he is dropping a horse it’s always interesting. This one drops in class by half and gets the apprentice today which is helpful. Could be sneaky but I wouldn’t take her at 9/5.
Race 3- 6 ½ F CLM12500N3L
Picks- 7-6-9
#7 El Fenomeno just dominated at Penn National against N2L but for 25K 2 races ago. He jumped up in class off that performance and tried hard to get the lead and failed and ultimately quit. I think he is another horse who likes to hang around for minor awards but if he gets the lead by himself, today could be the day he wins.
#6 Our Stormin Norman is also dropping in today like a few in here. This horse was competing against OC company but drops into 12,500 claimers and that is key here. Silvestre Gonzalez will have to send this horse to get position and could even try to get the lead.
#9 Sargeant Drive has been running consistently at this level and that is a positive for me. This field is salty for a claiming 12,500N2L. My only fear is that he is 0 for 6 at Parx. I think it is a good horse to use underneath.
Race 4- 1M CLM7500N3L
Picks- 4-7-5
#4 Knokke by the Sea also has run better on a fast going and if he can return to his form 4 races ago in the same race he will win this one. Mychel Sanchez gets the call today which I like a lot as well.
#7 Mamaigotthis is dropping back to this level for John Rodriguez. He has struggled against this level but this is his condition. He has to face N3L or better, so he has to get his act together to move up in class. I think the apprentice can be the helpful part of that happening. Should be closing late.
#8 Redneck Cowboy is coming out of the same race as my top choice and finished towards the end of the pack. I think the fact this horse has had more time with Eli Betancourt and also gets Adorno back aboard today are positives and I think he has a shot to improve.
Race 5- 6F CLM5K
Picks- 6-4-7
#6 La Purissima is my top choice here simply for two reasons. Reason number one is that she should be the only horse on the lead if she gets a clean break. Reason number two is that Javier Felix Jr. is the rider. He doesn’t ride much or even at all lately but has won 2 races on this horse back in the early winter. He knows this horse the best and I like that he is back today.
#4 Princess Areni is in for Woodland Farms and Scott Lake. I had this horse as a top pick last time out and she finished 2nd. They step her up to open company today which is confusing but I think she showed enough to beat this field. She needs the lead type of horse which I don’t see happening today but she can compete nonetheless.
#7 I’m Thirsty is my price play here. I think she can upset this field. If there is a speed duel she will be the horse pressing them. Dexter Haddock seems to get the best out of her and is back today.
Race 6- 1M CLM12,500
Picks- 6-4-7
#6 Spring Emperor should be sitting right off the pace today and is stepping up in class for Jamie Ness. Frankie Pennington and Jamie Ness are connecting at 27% currently. He should get the right set up today.
#4 Woodbury is in 2nd off the claim for Carlos Soto and didn’t have the best trip last time out. Gets a fast going today and also drops in class. I think this should result in a ton of improvement.
#7 Federal Case dominated last time out for Lou Linder against N4L bottom level company. Now he has to face open company and is in for Jamie Bravo-Estrada who claimed him last time out. I think this horse is in great form and the raise up in class shouldn’t be too tough.
Race 7- 6F CLM7500N1Y
Picks- 7-4-2
#7 Tactical Pursuit (IRE) is in 2nd off the claim for Danny Velazquez who improved this horse a bunch first off the claim. I think today will be the day Danny gets the win. They dropped him back to the bottom so they are either trying to dump the horse for 7500 or win. I think they are looking to win.
#4 Truly a Moon Shot is finally turning his form back around and is looking to win 2 in a row. Joe Taylor has him ready to run but it could have just been because of the off going in 3 out of the last 4 that were good starts. I hope it is his form and not luck of the weather helping him get to the winner’s circle.
#2 Off Duty just went gate to wire in the slop at 26/1 two weeks ago. Laprida gave him a great trip and won from the 13 hole which is huge. I think they can get two in a row today if Laprida can get the lead.
Race 8- 7F ALW35000N1R
Picks- 5-2-3
#5 My Man Elvis has been facing a lot weaker but jumps up in class a ton for Lou Linder which is unusual as Lou is the type of trainer to run horses where they need to be run at. Ruben Silvera has been getting every mount home as of late and I think this could be an upset today and I think 8/1 would be a gift.
#2 Incite is in for Pennington and Servis. This duo has been firing as of late and this horse has had a lot of rest as of late and is 2nd off the layoff. His first race off the layoff was solid but nothing special. I think he improves today with the added stamina.
#3 Geebert is the ML favorite and I don’t know why. Sure he has beaten this type of class before but he hasn’t run since December and his recent work was lackluster. I think he has a shot here but I wouldn’t play on top at this price.
Race 9- 6 ½ F ALW8000S
Picks- 9-7-5
#9 Ninetyeightoctane is my top pick in this super salty field and probably the best race on the card, This gelding has won the last two races against weaker fields and is looking for the 3rd in a row. Jorge Gonzalez and Howard Brown Jr. are on fire as of late too hitting at almost 30%. I think this horse will get the ideal set up and win.
#7 Seat of Honor is for Angel Castillo and Tzortzakis and I liked this horse last time out at this same level. That was at a Mile and a half however. I think the cut back in distance will be perfect as he should be more fit.
#5 Jupi’s Lightning looks to keep his hot streak alive. She is in amazing form and looks to just love Parx. I think she can be close to the lead today but I don’t know if she will get the lead. If she doesn’t get the lead its no big deal as I think she is better sitting off the pace.
Race 10- 6F CLM7500N2L
Picks- 4-6-9
#4 Running Girl is in for Haleem Lee and Jermaine Burke. I think Running Girl will be the leader here early. I like that Burke is getting more mounts recently as the rules have been lifted for him to work horses in the AM and ride in the PM due to covid. This horse needs an easy lead in order to win but this field doesn’t have much when it comes to a pace. I think this could be a sneaky gate to wire win.
#6 Ain’t None Lucky is going to be the favorite and rightfully so. She is in best form in this field and is for good connections. I like the drop in class too but I think she just likes to hang around late and isn’t fully focused on winning.
#9 Touch of Nirvana should be closing late. She hasn’t won in a while but this level isn’t too hard and this field isn’t the best. 2nd off the claim for Jeffrey Englehart so I expect improvement.
