Rob Dove’s Saturday Ascot Analysis

I have a few thoughts for today but if you’re hungry for more tips PTF suggests you check out pieces on the At the Races website here and here.

Chesham Stakes

Lope Y Fernandez is a short priced favourite and was impressive on debut well bet it was always travelling well off steady fractions and ran home pretty quick, with a strong chance of improvement maybe hard to beat, O’briens won this in recent years 3 times with nice types, soft ground would be a worry on pedigree. Pinatubo ran a fast time off a strong pace at Epsom and on pedigree should relish the extra distance,Charlie Appleby ran Masar in this (3rd to September). At current prices I’ll pass.
Jersey Stakes
SPACE BLUES has always shown alot of talent and after the failed try up in trip has really improved dropped back to 7f, at York he was always travelling well but locked up had to move across the track to get a run & exploded clear in the final furlong in a very swift time in his last start he was held up off a steadyish pace & did well to run them down, from the path (3.44f out) he ran the quickest time of the 2 day derby meeting (level with the 5f dash). His biggest danger might be the horse he beat there Urban Icon who was only a neck behind but I think the straight 7f will suit Space Blues even better should get the job done.
Hardwicke Stakes
Masar reappears here after a long layoff & it has to be considered a negative that he didn’t go for the Group 1 earlier in the week. Defoe comes here off the back of a nice Group 1 victory he could be improving but looks a real plugger and the short straight here might no give him enough time. Southern France and Mirage Dancer are in the right hands but both need to find a bit. LAH TI DAR, my initial idea, has scratched. I’m going to pass.
Diamond Jubilee
If Blue Point runs to the same form as Tuesday he will be very hard to beat he’s untested on a quick turnaround and lost his form after Ascot last year. INVINCIBLE ARMY looks an improving sprinter who won a Group 2 in impressive style last out. Bound For Nowhere has run 2 big races here and last year went off a bit too quick and hanging across the track probably just cost him he was drawn 1 that day and is again which is a concern considering high draws dominated so far this week, City of Light just beat him there & should go well again.

I will leave the final 2 handicaps to the pin stickers, all roads lead to car park 2.
