PTF posting for @BlinkersOff420
SA – March 26
Friday kicks off three days of racing in sunshine at Santa Park in Arcadia, CA. If your cup of tea is betting maiden races, then this card is for you. Six of eight races on the card are maiden types, with the other two races being a Clm 20k, N3L and OC 50k/SAL50k. These two races will be my focus, and both play a role in the late pick 5 sequence if you are firing on the multi’s.
Race #4 – Clm 20000(20-18) N3L – 1 Mile – Dirt – 4 YO ^
With a field of seven entered speed should not be an issue. On paper it looks like it will benefit the ML favorite, #3, Justin’s Quest (5-2), ridden by Prat.
1. With a seven horse field and the obvious pace advantage on paper Justin’s Quest will take more money and may be worth taking a shot against.
2. Short priced favorite, short field, kicking off late pick 5 comes to mind. Am I looking to be with the sheep and single #3? If you think the horse is the best and wins nothing wrong with that approach, punch it a couple times though.
My play: #2, Seiche (4-1)
The Baffert connection means nothing to me. He was looking to win stakes eventually like all his horses and it did not work out. Val is looking to win a Clm 20k. The workout pattern coming in looks solid, plus Tyler Baze might have two options. Gun it with the short first turn and grab lead or let the rest of field go and hope for a trip with contentious pace. Either way I like what I see and maybe get a little overlay even.
2 – 3 – 7
Race #7 – Fillies & Mares – OC50k / SAL50k – 6 Furlongs – Turf – 3 YO ^
Six horses are entered to race 6 furlongs on the turf. 4/5 morning line favorite Translate has Umberto Rispoli up for the mount.
1. Like the previous reviewed race, a short field with a short price is an angle I prefer to go against.
2. My thought is pace will be too quick for just setting off style.
My play: #1, Shes’a Perfect Lady (5-2)
Looking at race last out hopefully similar fractions will be set. A trip will need to be worked out but the jockey riding is capable.
