Steven Bonnick’s Import Analysis for Saturday, February 6

Just one import on Saturday. If you see a first-time North American runner you want information on, feel free to contact us on Twitter or through the contact link on the blog. This is PTF posting for Steven Bonnick.

Santa Anita Race 2 MSW 1 1/8 Turf  #7 Cider Apple

Cider Apple – ex-Hughie Morrison filly by Charm Spirit. This filly shaped with some promise on her debut at a moderate level, running on well despite greenness to finish fifth. She went on to finish 2nd in each of her next three starts, all over 7f, running to a similar level on each occasion. Her last run, in a Sandown handicap, was her best, and the figure she ran there (75 Timeform) was pretty solid. She is clearly no superstar at present but from limited evidence appears to be consistent, genuine and versatile, having run well on both firm and soft turf. She has enough stamina in her breeding to suggest this new trip will be well within her range. Indeed, it should suit, as she doesn’t appear to do anything particularly quickly, looking more of a galloper than a quickener – she may also be suited by a strong pace in her races, or by having plenty of use made of her. Her workouts haven’t been particularly flashy, but in terms of raw ability she looks to fit nicely in this spot. I would consider her a sure-fire winner in North America if she is presented with the right opportunities.
