The Shipping Forecast – Belmont At The Big A – 9/18/22

Course: Belmont At The Big A

Race: Race 9

Horse: Majestic Glory

Trainer/Jockey: Todd Pletcher – Dylan Davis

Breeding: 3-year-old filly; Frankel – Bella Nouf (Dansili)

A winner of two of her eight starts, Majestic Glory progressed to win a Group 3 last season but disappointed on her final two starts, failing to beat a rival home on her final run in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile having been a beaten favourite prior to that in a Group 2. She kicked off this season with a much better effort, chasing home last year’s Natalma winner Wild Beauty, and a subsequent Group 3 winner, home. She was a let down again on her most recent start, but it’s possible she didn’t react well to both the first-time hood and the highly idiosyncratic track at Epsom. If back to her best we think she can run to a Beyer of 90, with ground and distance both looking suitable.

Horse: Miss Carol Ann

Trainer/Jockey: Graham Motion – Jose Ortiz

Breeding: 3-year-old filly; Kingman – Miss Katie Mae (Dark Angel)

A winner of two of her six starts, Miss Carol Ann finished 2.5 lengths behind Majestic Glory at Newbury earlier in the season but interestingly was shorter in the betting. She has generally been a horse that the market has liked, and she recorded a smart speed-figure when winning a handicap at Newmarket two starts ago. She was held up for that win, and didn’t seem as effective ridden up with the pace from a wide draw last time out, already weakening when hampered and beating only one home. She will probably be better waited with and is pretty unexposed when ridden from off the speed. We think she can run to around a 91 Beyer if at her best, but reliability has been an issue in her career to date.
