The Shipping Forecast – Saratoga – 8/14/22

Course: Saratoga

Race: Race 9

Horse: Cadamosto

Trainer/Jockey: Joseph O’Brien  – Tyler Gaffalione

Breeding: 3-year-old colt; No Nay Never – Saucy Spirit (Invincible Spirit)

Previously trained by Aidan O’Brien. A winner of one of his eight starts, Cadamosto was successful on his debut as a juvenile but has since failed to add to that tally. He has, however, run creditably in strong races in defeat, including at Royal Ascot, where he filled fourth spot over the straight track there in both the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes and the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup, the latter of which was a clear career best but was aided by a very favourable trip. He disappointed in the July Stakes at the top level next time out, but ran a solid race last time out dropped into a Group 2 at the Curragh; he was well placed there and maybe found the five furlongs a little sharp. He faces another speed test here but if he can get away on terms he should be able to run to a Beyer of around 96, which would see him follow hot favourite Big Invasion home. If that runner underperforms for any reason, Cadamosto looks the one most likely to take advantage, and he should win his share of races in the US.
