The Shipping Forecast – Saratoga – 8/6/22

Course: Saratoga

Race: Race 4

Horse: Dream Works

Trainer/Jockey: Chad Brown – Flavien Prat

Breeding: 5-year-old gelding; Wootton Bassett – Sabionierre (Verglas)

Previously trained by Fabrice Chappet. A winner of two of his eight starts, Dream Works comes here off a break of over a year but that is less of an issue with this trainer than it might be for some. Dream Works came up a little short in two tries in Group race in his native France in his Classic season, but he seemed to find Listed company more to his liking, winning one race at that level and finishing a narrow runner-up in that grade on his most recent start in July of last year. That was a career best on the figures and he looked to have improved from 3 to 4, which isn’t too surprising given his sire is well known for getting types that progress. It’s quite conceivable he could have improved again physically in his time off – his half-brother was best as a 6-year-old – and if he has he could be very tough to beat in this spot. It’s clearly extra difficult trying to project a number off a lay-off of this length, but Dream Works could hardly be in better hands and we figure he can run around a 98 Beyer. He is unproven on very firm ground, but otherwise appeals as a strong win candidate here.
