Race 4: #10 Midnight Meghan (4-1)
Just one play for today’s Thursday card, but lots to like about Midnight Meghan. Her first two starts came against straight maidens where she mostly just ran in place, but both races had early paces that were significantly faster than what she’ll likely face here. And it’s not like she was 10+ lengths off the lead early on, so I think she’ll be able to sit much closer to the pace today. She earned a 53 Beyer if both of those starts, and those paired up Beyer tops could indicate she’ll take a nice leap forward on figures today. Those 53’s are also higher than every figure all her rivals have ever run in their careers and she also is among the highest in the field on early pace figures and late pace figures.
I like the outside draw that will allow her to adapt to the pace scenario and she’s taking the biggest drop in racing today. With the scratch of the favorite that was on the also-eligible list, you may not get 4-1 but I’m hoping the presence of a low percentage jockey can keep her at a playable price.
