Woodbine Spot Plays 06/16/23 By Jackson Muniz

Race 7: #11 Burlap 12-1

I think this older mare is worth a shot at a price after a decent comeback race just 2 weeks ago. She showed more speed than in previous races but never really found a comfortable spot to chase the pace. She was battling for position between three horses through the entirety of the race and I like that she was the only one of those to have any kind of finish late as she secured third. The winner was favored and on the lead throughout, while the second place finisher came from well out of it. That race was at five and a half furlongs, today she stretches out to six and a half which should benefit her. She also drew outside the other speed today so she’ll be able to secure a good trip tracking the pace in the clear throughout, then we’ll find out if she’s good enough in the stretch.

The play: $10 W/P #11

                  $5 double 11/2

Race 8: #2 Stronger Together 9/2

This guy looks a prime cutback candidate for today’s 7 furlong race. Last time out he ran well enough in a 8.5 furlong race going two turns. He came from off the pace to challenge for the lead at the quarter pole, but couldn’t sustain that bid and faded to fourth. With a better timed ride, the cutback should be perfect for him. And while most of his rivals are making just their second start of the year, he’s been running consistently since last summer’s Woodbine meet, and he is cutting back from a two turn race so he should definitely have a fitness edge for this demanding 7 furlong distance.

The play: $20 W #2
