Belmont Plays for 5/14/23 By Robbie Fazzone

BELMONT 5/14/23

RACE 2- TURF ONLY

5- BORN A GAMBLER- Ran a career best in nose defeat at this 30k NW2L level going this 1 1 1/16 miles trip over this inner turf course last June. Followed that up with a 4th place finish on the grass at Saratoga at essentially the same level in July, where something went wrong physically with him and consequently led to a layoff. Returned off that break in April at this distance and level at Aqueduct in April, where he sat a good inside trip, but lacked a finishing kick to finish 4th in an overall even performance. Not sure if this is a switch in trainers to Sells or a fill in, but she is a very capable trainer, regardless of what the stats might suggest. Should be tighter for his second start back and is a strong contender in here.

RACE 4- TURF ONLY

10- ADDRESSABLE MARKET- Checked on the far turn and was far back, but would finish with interest through the stretch run when 4th as the favorite in a filly Sp. Wt. going one mile on the turf at Monmouth in first career start last August. Was dropped to a 75k maiden claimer for her second and latest start going 1 1/16 miles on the Aqueduct turf, where she raced in and among horses until upper stretch, before finishing evenly through the final three-sixteenths when once again finishing 4th 11/6. Returns off the layoff, while dropping to this filly 40k maiden claimer at one mile for her three year old debut and will add blinkers for this. C. Brown is potent with these types and she should be very tough in this spot.

RACE 6- TURF ONLY

6- MONROE- Ran away from a field of 3 year old filly state bred Sp. Wts. at odds on going six furlongs on the dirt at Aqueduct in February. Tracked mid pack from the outside, but was empty by the far turn when a well beaten 4th in a state bred 1x allowance for 3 year old fillies going one mile in first start with winners in latest 3/17. Moves to the grass in this state bred filly 1x allowance at six furlongs for her third start and turf sprinting should suit her. Will face older horses for the first time in this competitive race, but the cutback in distance, along with the switch to turf, should make this filly a serious threat today.

RACE 7- TURF ONLY

7- SELL SOMETHING- Came off a five month break to win a starter allowance going 1 1/16 miles on the grass at Aqueduct, where he came wide into the stretch and powered home through the final furlong to win going away in a career best 4/16. Gets back with state breds in this state bred 1x allowance going one mile and there isn’t much of a difference in ability between the horses he beat in the starter allowance last month and the horses he’s facing in here. He doesn’t necessarily have to improve off that career best race in his latest and will only need to run something close to that to prove tough once again today.
