Belmont Plays for 5/21/23 By Robbie Fazzone

BELMONT 5/21/23

RACE 3

6- VENGE- Took a lot of money first time out for a barn that usually isn’t bet with their debuters, where he was bumped soundly at the start, which left him trailing, before going on to put in a mild stretch run to finish a well beaten 3rd in a Sp. Wt. at six furlongs over a speed favoring, sloppy track in December. Raced in tight from between horses and backed out on the turn at the same level going seven furlongs in second start in January. Had three months off and added blinkers for his third start, where he never factored in latest 4/21. Appears to be a horse who badly needed racing experience and is a new gelding for this Sp. Wt. at seven furlongs, which has been moved from turf to dirt. Should be set now for a much better performance than what he has showed in those first three runs and is a threat if kept in this off the turfer.

RACE 7

6- REIGNING CHICK- Broke with the field, but dropped back quickly to trail behind a quick pace, before swinging wide and running them down through the stretch to get the score over 25k claimers going this six furlong distance in latest 4/13. Was claimed by Walder out of that race, who passed up entering her in yesterday’s starter allowance for fillies and mares to instead run in this filly state bred 1x allowance. Should get a good pace up front to set up her late run and she is a strong final furlong factor in here.

RACE 8

9- HORN OF PLENTY- Tipped out at the quarter pole to get to the leaders and then gamely held for the win in a state bred allowance going five and a half furlongs at Finger Lakes two races back 5/9. Ran back in eight days and was steadied at the five-sixteenths, before getting through the inside to finish a close 2nd in a NW2 state bred races, again going five and a half furlongs at Finger Lakes 5/17. Is once again run back quickly in this state bred 2x allowance, which now goes at six furlongs on the main track and while this will be tougher than the races at Finger Lakes, Jacobson took advantage of the conditions and this geldings eligibility to those races to get him back in top form. Can run another big race right back for a barn that excels when running back horses quickly.

RACE 9

4- NORTH END LADY- Violence filly was training in Florida over the winter and early spring, before being brought up here earlier this month to prepare for this filly state bred Sp. Wt. at seven furlongs. Has trained well right along and while Tagg isn’t necessarily known for winning with firsters, he certainly is more than capable of doing so, as he’s done with the likes of Funny Cide, Realm, Salty Little Sis, Brucia La Terra and Tiz the Law- to name a few- over the years. Is expected to have some talent and she seemingly isn’t facing any killers in here. Should run big and seriously threaten at first asking today.
