Most Likely Winner: Race 2- (2) SLEW THE TURN
Race 1: (3) GOLDEN KEY was 7-1 on debut last time but will likely be odds-on tonight. Should be a part of the early pace mix with (2) ENTRY TIME, who finished behind GOLDEN KEY last time out. Of the four first-time starters in this field, watch out for the son of FIBER SONDE, (7) SPANGLISH, who had a bullet four-furlong workout recently in preparation for the debut.
Race 2: (2) SLEW THE TURN is the most-likely winner based on recent speed figures, which tower over this field, but will almost certainly be very short by post time. For a possible upset, consider (4) FIBERTOWN, who possess good early speed and plenty of strong back class. (7) FAPPIANO ROCKET is the best of the rest and will hopefully have a stronger showing in his second try at this condition.
Race 3: Will take a shot against the favorite here with (1) UHWARRIE SKY, who ran a respectable effort in his first try at Charles Town last time out and stretches back out to try the three-turn 1 1/16 miles for the first time. However, would not be shocked if the likely heavy favorite (4) APPROVETHISMESSAGE wins here. The horse won last time out and Denis Araujo opts to ride here over UHWARRIE SKY. For a price in exotics, consider (7) THE PREDICTOR, who has hit the board in 14 of 25 tries at the distance.
Race 4: (5) STOP TALKING had a career-best effort in terms of speed figure last time out at Laurel. Also had a decent effort at the distance and level over this course three races back. Should be considered a serious contender. (9) ROYAL ATHENA is the first-time starter of the bunch and should be considered in exotics. Keep an eye on the tote board to see what the public thinks of this one. (8) GREAT CAUSE has a pair of recent third place finishes at this level and will look to get a piece again tonight.
Race 5: (4) EASTPORT finished second in a dead heat last time out, in his second start for the Anthony Farrior barn. In his debut for the barn, he was fourth in a key race where he was wide throughout and which produced two next-out winners. (5) SILVER CASTLE also had a wide trip last time out in a race that heavily favored closers. He is a serious win contender in his second start for the Irving Velez barn, but be cautious about taking too short of a price on this one. (8) AWESOME BUZZ figures to be a part of the pace mix and could catch a piece.
Race 6: (2) GHANDI’s CASTLE and (7) OUR DIAMOND GIRL are the two to beat here, as both look for their second win in a row. Slight edge given to GHANDI’S CASTLE, who should hold inside position on OUR DIAMOND GIRL. Additionally, GHANDI’S CASTLE’s most recent win was much more visually impressive than OUR DIAMOND GIRL’s. For third, let’s try (5) OUR BAD GIRL, who leaves the Kevin Patterson barn after one less-than-stellar start for the barn. However, OUR BAD GIRL was 6-wide in that race and is generally pretty consistent at the distance, hitting the board in 12 of 17 tries.
Race 7: (1) SUPER GARNER figures to set the pace from the rail draw as he looks for two wins in a row at Charles Town. (2) CATCH MY CABOOSE had an impressive win at the level two back, before regressing slightly in the most recent start. Will look to bounce back here. (4) BLACK STEEL is hovering just below the Beyer par for this race, but has never failed to hit the board in the last four effort with Gustavo Larrosa in the irons.
Race 8: (2) EPIC WEST improved last time out in his second start at Charles Town for the Kevin Patterson barn. Draws post position two and should be gunning for the top from the time the gates open. Would need to improve to win here, but could take another step forward for the connections. (5) WINDSORS FOR IT makes a drop-in class, is likely to be a heavy odds-on favorite, and should stalk the pace and be right in the mix at the end. (8) ADIOS SEE YA has hit the board in three of four efforts since coming up from South Florida. Figures to be competitive against this bunch.
