Analysis & Selections By: Dean Keppler @Keppskorner

BEST BET: 2-Street Beast (Race 10)

Race #1: Selections: 12-1-11

12-Clouseau got the worst of the post draws, but figures to settle at the rear of the field with Rispoli and make one big run late while hopefully saving ground somewhere along the way. The eight-time winner has the strongest late pace figures in the field and can repeat despite the class hike. 1-Westwood has put together a pair of sharp tries in his last two one-mile main track efforts for Shirreffs and figures to trip out nicely from the fence. 11-Legitimate has been well rested off his 12 ¾-length “off the turf” maiden romp back in January for Sadler, when adding Lasix, and has trained steadily for this afternoon’s return to action. Prat gets the return mount.

Race #2: Selections: 2-5-8

2-Conducted kicked away to an impressive looking 6 ¼-length maiden turf romp on Oct. 4 at Santa Anita over a bulky field and should prove tough in his first stakes try with a similar effort. The Mendelssohn colt fired a sharp “best of 39” bullet four furlongs in :47 flat over the main track on Oct. 24. 5-Plutarch has run well in all three starts for Team Baffert, including a third in the American Pharoah (G1) in his most recent dirt try and a sharp runner-up in the Grade 3 Del Mar Juvenile Turf two back. He’s also trained well since that last effort. 8-Dr. Agne ships west for conditioner Cherie DeVaux off a pair of even fourth-place finishes in the Bourbon (G2) and With Anticipation (G3).

Race #3: Selections: 12-9-4

12-Liberation was able to stalk, pounce, and then draw away when dropped back down to the allowance ranks on Oct. 3 for Sadler. Two back, in the Generous Portion S., she blasted on the lead through taxing fractions and tired late when facing several of these. The daughter of Omaha Beach should be able to effectively rate again this afternoon with Hernandez and turn the tables on her main rivals with an outside draw. Blinkers off, 9-Mohaven, was runner-up in the aforementioned Generous Portion and continues to train well for Sadler. Recent maiden winner, 4-Miss Kona, stretches out an additional furlong for conditioner Peter Eurton and should get another live race flow to flatter her late kick.

Race #4: Selections: 6-4-2

The Wesley Ward-trained 6-Shoot It True has proven to be equally effective on dirt and turf, having won four of six career starts, and has shown a ton of versatility on the lead or closing from off the pace when switching to turf. She co-tops the field’s best last-out grass Beyer (95). 4-Queen Maxima has finished a disappointing sixth in her last two starts for Mullins, but has been freshened for this and is back training sharply. Perhaps she can regain the raging form that she showed over the spring, when winning five straight. 2-Nay V Belle was a sharp winner and runner-up over this grass course when last seen in August and has been freshened nicely for this for conditioner Mark Glatt.

Race #5: Selections: 2-4-6-9

2-Ocean Bear has won two straight after a runner-up effort in his Aug. 16 debut try and has seen his Beyers increase with each subsequent try for conditioner George Papaprodromou. The Bolt d’Oro juvenile figures to catch another spirited early race flow to close into for his first stakes try. 4-Pavlovian was runner-up to the top choice in his most recent try for Team O’Neil, and this consistent Pavel colt has now run first or second in four of five tries. 6-Sammy Davis could not make it three straight for Sadler when battling through some taxing fractions on the front end in the Sept. 5 I’m Smokin S. and will now have to carry that early zip to seven furlongs. The gelding is not likely to get an uncontested lead, however. 9-Thirsty Rebel goes turf to dirt for Team O’Neill, and both of his best efforts were over the main track to start his career.

Race #6: BC Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1)

Selections: 9-10-12-8

The Group 1 winning 9-True Love (Ire) is one of several chances for world-class horseman Aidan O’Brien. A winner over three different courses in Ireland and the U.K., True Love has beaten the boys and figures to be a handful against her American rivals. Trainer George Weaver starts a pair of fillies here, but 10-Cy Fair may be best. The daughter of Not This Time has won two of three career starts. She exits an impressive last-to-first victory in the Algonquin S. in Canada on Oct. 5. The Patrick Biacone-trained 12-Lennilu is an impressive 4-for-5 and defeated the boys in the Hollywood Beach S. in her most recent try at Gulfstream on Sept. 27. Today will be her third start of the form cycle. 8-Havana Anna (GB) was runner-up to True Love in the Cheveleley Park (G1) and will get the opportunity to run on firm turf for the first time.

Race #7: BC Juvenile Fillies (G1)

Selections: 7-1-8-9

The daughter of Blame 7-Explora was an impressive 4 ¼-length winner of the G2 Oak Leaf at Santa Anita in her most recent start and handled that two-turn test with flying colors. She sports this field’s best last-out Beyer (83) and figures to be a handful for Team Baffert this afternoon. 1-Iron Orchard is a perfect 3-for-3 for conditioner Danny Gargan and was a game winner of the Frizette (G1) at Aqueduct on Oct. 4, a traditional primary prep for this event. Recent Maiden winner 8-Super Corredora was an 8 ¼-length dominating victress on the stretch-out at Santa Anita on Oct. 11 and has seen her Beyers improve with each subsequent start. The Beyer boost in the last came on the stretch-out, which is always a positive sign in this event. This filly would be the first winner in the history of this event to win out of a Maiden Special Weight, however. 9-La Wally was no match for Explora in the Oak Leaf, but looks like a legitimate two-turn horse with plenty of upside for Glatt.

Race #8: BC Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1)

Selections: 1-3-11-6-9

1-Ultimate Love is undefeated for conditioner Michael Trombetta and looked visually impressive winning the Selima S. at Laurel in her most recent prep for this on Sept. 27. The daughter of Curlin gets the cozy rail draw. She will have every chance if she is good enough with Velazquez. 3-Imaginationlady took the G2 Jessamine at Keeneland on Oct. 3 and hails from the red-hot Brendan Walsh barn that has been on fire of late in Kentucky. 11Ground Support has good early zip and was a sharp 12-1 upset winner of the Ms Grillo S. at Aqueduct on Oct. 4. The Army Mule filly makes the all-important third career try for conditioner Danny Kelsey with plenty of upside. 6-Switch in Love (Jpn) is an unknown from Japan trained by Yoshito Yahagi, who sends out Forever Young in Saturday’s Classic. 9-Time to Dream was third behind Imaginationlady in the Jessamine and has some of the fastest late pace figures in this field. The Pletcher-trained should get a spirited live flow to close into.

Race #9: BC Juvenile (G1)

Selections 8-7-1-3

The undefeated 8-Ted Noffey has shown professionalism in all three career wins for trainer Todd Pletcher, who has won this event four times, including two of the last three. This rising star by top sire Into Mischief will take some beating this afternoon, showing versatility to lead or sit with veteran rider John Velazquez. The $3 million son of Gun Runner, 7-Brant, hasn’t disappointed, winning both sprint tries by a combined 6 ¼ lengths, and is bred to carry his cruising speed two turns. 1-Intrepido was a sharp winner of the American Pharoah (G1) on Oct. 4 at Santa Anita for Berrios and Mullins despite some anxious moments in deep stretch when buried and boxed in. The Omaha Beach colt re-rallied for the game score. The son of Gun Runner is training lights-out. 3-Mr. A. P. is a double-digit late threat if this race somehow falls apart.

Race #10: BC Juvenile Turf (G1)

Selections 2-14-9-12

2-Street Beast romped by seven lengths in the Juvenile Mile at Kentucky Downs for trainer Ben Colebrook, and this Street Sense colt should be plenty fit for this engagement, co-toping the field’s best last-out Beyer (81). A beaten favorite in his last four tries, the O’Brien-trained 14-Gstad (GB) has finished second in three straight Group 1s, and was a winner of his first two starts to begin his young career. The talented juvenile is a logical win candidate for a barn that’s won this event seven times. He must overcome post 14, however. The Riley Mott-trained 9-Argos exits a sharp win in the Summer (G1) at Woodbine and has seen his Beyers also improve with each subsequent start. He’s dangerous with another progressive move forward. 12-Bottas may be the best of his American counterparts for conditioner Miguel Clement. The Vekoma colt is 2-for-2 and was a game winner of the Pilgrim (G2) at Aqueduct in start number two when rallying determinedly through traffic late.
