Gulfstream Park – Late Pick 5 – Friday (January 02, 2026) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5

Race selections provided are in the mindset of playing the Pick 5 sequence as a whole; runners are placed in the order of most likely winner, in my humble opinion.

Race 5 SELECTIONS:    9 – 5 – 7

# 9 It’s Hot in Here a well-bred lightly raced mare who has been away from the races for over a year but has shown flashes of talent, if she is ready off the long layoff she will be tough to beat.  #5 Reading Time is dropping in class and will be making her second start for trainer Kent Sweezey.   She is three for two on the grass and should improve greatly over her last start, which was not on her preferred surface.  # 7 Highway Harmony is a legitimate gate to wire threat, making her third start off the layoff for trainer Jorge Abreu.

Race 6  SELECTIONS:   6

#6 Paros is worthy of a standalone selection in today’s 6th race. He has great natural early speed and drops in class and seems to be a standout versus his competition today.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   2 – 4

#2 Uncle’s Gold broke his maiden last time earning a strong speed rating after moving over to the All-Weather surface.  #4 Win With Faith just missed in a similar race last time out and should get a good pace setup, jockey Javier Castellano retains the riding duties.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   4 – 7 – 3 – 1

#4 Confessional won at first asking in very impressive fashion, earning a strong speed rating; Trainer Brad Cox and top jockey Irad Ortiz team up for this one.  #7 Mob beat a field eleven going gate to wire at Churchill on debut. This son of Gun Runner has excellent breeding top and bottom and will get Lasix for the first time, as will most of the newly turned three year olds in today’s eighth race.  #3 Blame Yasself will be making his second career start after debuting 48 days ago here at Gulfstream Park; in which he showed great early speed, jockey Junior Alvarado picks up the riding assignment.  #1 Vost won at first asking back in August and since then has competed in two Graded Stake races. Although his speed ratings are not eye catching, he has been battle tested and a competitor.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   5 – 7 – 4 – 8 – 1

#5 Little Gussie is the most logical winner in a competitive finale but has failed as the favorite in her last three starts. With that said she is dropping in class and returning to the turf surface, rider change to jockey Joe Bravo.  #7 Come On Poppi does her best running late and as she returns from a two month layoff could have what it takes to win against this field, jockey Junior Alvarado will be in the saddle.  #4 La Rodada drops in class and the blinkers will come off for trainer Ramon Minguet; apprentice jockey Yolber Torres picks up the mount.  #8 Why has never attempted a race on the grass but has been improving on the All-Weather.   #1 My Wish is a first-time starter for trainer William Walden; the Walden barn has done well with turf runners over the past year.

Today’s ticket .50 base (pre scratches) : 5,7,9 / 6 / 2,4 / 1,3,4,7 / 1,4,5,7,8 cost: $60
