John Gaspar sits down with Nick Seevers, who won the Turfway Park Synthetic Championship last Sunday at Twinspires.com. Nick is a relatively new contest player but I contend that he consumes more horse racing podcasts/content than any one else in America!

Hey guys,
Congratulations Nick! When it comes to Vegas + the NHC be positive about your chances to win and/or make a good showing. You earned your spot, you belong there and you obviously know what you’re doing.
Enjoyed the talk about horses + different distances, 5 furlongs, 5 1/2 + 6. I’ve done well over the years analyzing horses with similar competitive speed figures where one horse has earned it at 5 1/2 or 6 and the other horse has earned it at 5 or 5 1/2. In my opinion the horse who ran the extra 1/2 or full furlong almost always has the advantage over the horse running the shorter sprint distance when it comes to running that # again. It’s great when the horse running the shorter distance takes a lot of money in the win pool + I can downgrade him in that slot. Of course that doesn’t mean I get the winner 🙂 but I feel I have an advantage going in. Also agree with both of you on the “tip your hat comments”. Sometimes it’s a great bet on the other persons part + sometimes it’s just the situation dictating a bet that person would never normally make, trying a hail Mary at the end. They can + do work, that doesn’t mean you did something wrong or should have done something different. Great show, Thanks a lot!
